16:9 or 4:3?

What do you guys use ??

Both. 16:9 for video, 4:3 for photos.

I’m the same as Dave, you can then crop to how you want.

I think you probably have no choice for photos if, as I do, you shoot JPEG+RAW.

I’ve never shot RAW, I know I should but never have.

I use 16:9 for both videos and photos.

Mainly because that’s the shape my TV is, it’s not 1980 you know

But in all seriousness, my learned colleague @RaRaRasputin pointed out to me last year, “Why not use the whole sensor?” - and he has a point…

And now you have me wondering…

I shoot JPG+RAW and I’m 99.9999999999999% sure they’re still a 16:9 format?!

How many pixels x how many pixels?

Hmmm…

3992 × 2992

Recent example:

That’ll be a 4:3 then.

I was wondering, earlier, why the jpeg is 4000 x 3000 and the RAW is missing 8 pixels each way.

Yeah, weird!! I stand completely corrected.

Shows how much attention I pay eh?

All those crisp, sharp, colourful pixels you’ve been ignoring!
You’ll be reported to the RSPCA … Royal Society for Pixel Counting Anomalies.
