Apropos the drought and Trump’s visit; where I live, a certain mate of Trump’s has bought a large estate and has spent the budget of small country doing work on the house and the grounds. The biggest part is a pond the size of lake Geneva in his front garden, which involved shifting and removing several million tons of soil, the result being a large hole that needed to be filled with water. Several months ago, he organised water tankers to ship in millions of litres of water. This has continued, without stopping through the drought, all summer and has only, in the last few days, fallen to maybe 5 or 6 tankers (carrying 20,000 lots each) A DAY. from maybe 30. After 13 months of relentless traffic including colossal trucks with ground moving equipment, articulated 44 tonners, HGVs, 35 ton soil removal trucks, tradesman vans (who have little regard for village life or speed limits), we then started getting a constant stream (forgive the pun) of water tankers all day and all night, (one of whom owned pink truck and played music from a speaker strapped to the passenger seat, loud enough to be heard in the next county. I kid you not!) and passed by the house at least 4-5 times day, delivering water to the pond. We estimate about a million lts a day/night. The PR team at the house said the water was bing used to irrigate new trees planted! Well enough was enough. I contacted my local MP and Southern Water and a neighbour called the BBC. The result was a headline on the BBC about the owner disregarding hosepipe bans, (you’d laugh its so ridiculous) currently in place for the area and Southern Water’s MD came out saying there is no excuse, 'They have gone beyond the ‘Spirit’ of the contract. Clearly SW wasnt prepared to admit but they must have known what and why the water was being used. (They had a contract to extract water from a standpipe in Andover).

SW then called a ban on the tankers,… but they continue, albeit far fewer. It is farcical, and timely, as the owner will be sitting at the PM’s table with his mate Trump this week. Money is the only thing that matters. SW shareholders will be delighted. And we live under the threat of a £1,000 fine for using a f@@%n*g hosepipe. Yes, I shall remember the summer of 2025 but not for the heat WAVE.

As a Hampshire resident this is so fked up. Haven’t washed the car in fkin months! SW truly are a terrible company.

I agree. There is absolutely no excuse, but worse still the MD of SW made no direct apology to residents for the hypocrisy. The PR team at Conholt are full of s@£$t and will say anything to get the press off their back. The atmosphere up there feels like a small police state, a very dismissive attitude towards anyone who goes near the place.
