A freezing dawn and Happisburgh Lighthouse

beautiful morning so decided to get up early and nip to the lighthouse. First trip on my own, so was mindful of the breeze coming off the sea and seagulls!

Lovely shots Claire. Seems odd to have a lighthouse so far inland!

Someone very cleverly got one step ahead of coastal erosion. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Apparently …

There were originally two lighthouses - a “higher” (this one) and a “lower” on the (then) coast, that needed to be in alignment for correct navigation around Haisborough Sands.

Coastal erosion caused the lower one to be decommissioned and demolished in 1884 before the sea took it.

The remaining lighthouse is the only privately operated lighthouse in the UK.

 That’s brilliant. So in a hundred years time, they’ll be able to start using it!

It’s still in use to this day.

I remember @chrisjohnbaker went there a few years ago and the houses at the bottom are privately owned and occupied but I’m sure they are drone friendly if asked
