Hi all! I just got a DJI Mini 4 pro (refurbished for £400) - I live in Burry Port on the Carmarthenshire coast (30/40 mins west of Swansea) and see that there’s a small handful of members in the general area. I have some photography experience but no drone flying yet!
Not sure if any of you are up for meeting? Happy to drive to meet with any groups in South Wales.
Finally, any recommendations for local hands-on drone training to get me up to speed? Just a good basic session (for under £100 if poss) that can help keep me and others safe from my propellers!
Flying a drone is great fun but sometimes you feel the need to have a purpose for doing so and the Challenges category provides some great reasons for you to fly.
There are regular challenges which are open to all, that attract members of all abilities. Support, advice and constructive criticism is freely available; still photography, video and the techniques for editing both are involved in the challenges. Suggestions, for subjects or for complete challenges, are always welcome - take a look in the Challenges category for more information.
We’re a well established club with many knowledgeable members so it’s very likely that any issues you come across will have been discussed here before. Our discussion forum has very powerful search features which should help you find what you need but if you get stuck you can post a new question in the Questions & Answers category.
And finally, if you are new to drones and wondering what it’s all about, have a look at Resources for a beginner.
For locations then check and see what shows on DroneScene. I’ve definitely flown down your way.
There are others closer than myself, but if the date suits then I’m up for a meetup. Don’t think us Welsh flyers have had one yet.
Also, I really wouldn’t spend on any lessons. Just find a deserted spot and get out there and try it. If you were a bit closer I’d be more than happy to help out.
Hi Ben @Easyrider - welcome to GADC I know Burry Port very well and quite often fly my own drones there. I live in Gorseinon and would be more than happy to give you a heads-up on basic drone flying- and it won’t cost you a penny Being retired, I have a good amount of free time (between dog walking and searching for missing dogs) so can probably be available to suit your timetable
