This is Curwen hall, used to look a lot better than it does now. Following defeat at the battle of Langside on the 13th May 1568, Mary Queen of Scots crossed the Solway firth on the 16th May and spent her first night in England here.
Lovely photos, that Mary Queen of Scots chick got about a bit, she seems to have stayed everywhere. They will probably put up blue plaques saying ‘the only houseMary queen of Scots DIDN’T stay at’, people would flock from miles to see what was wrong with the place.
