Can you fly? The answer may be yes IF you do the right thing!
For the first time, I was visiting friends on their farm and they wanted to see my drone in action and at the same time have some nice footage and images of their family farm. The farm is next door to an airport with 4 runways. It’s important that we keep drones fun and at the same time safe, building the reputation of hobbyists and pro’s alike.
Dear Mr ********,
This is to inform you that I may be flying my drone at **** ***** Farm, (The closest point being approx 500mtrs NNW of ********* Airport) tomorrow (Tuesday 14th July 2020) between the hours of 13:00 & 14:00 hrs depending on suitable weather conditions.
The altitude of the drone will be no more than 120 metres from ground level at point of take-off at any time and will not leave the land boundaries.
My Operator ID: OP-******* is transmitted from the drone at all times.
Please take note of my direct number should you wish to contact me. 07*** ******.
If a call is received between the above hours from an unknown number, the drone shall make an immediate landing before answering the call.
Best regards
Ian Dangerfield
Hi Ian,
We have flights being undertaken all day.
I do not believe there should be any issues and am happy for the flight to take place providing that height and position is not breached.
I will advise operators of the details. Please advise me if either time, position or any other details change.
Many thanks
Airport Manager
Hiya *****,
Many thanks for your help in this matter and your support is greatly appreciated.
Best regards
Ian
Has anyone else experienced a good relationship with ‘active’ airports?
As the fly app states “Remote identification allows observers on the ground to track where an aircraft is flying and who is piloting it, much like an automobile license plate. Providing your personal information is optional”
That rather depends. I fear it’s the beginning of yet another downward slope.
If anyone can track you, the same anyones can be calling the police for a moan every time they mistakenly believe that you are somewhere you shouldn’t be.
As a result, the police are going to get a load of pointless complaints to follow up, wasting even more of their precious time … and so the chain-reaction goes to where police forces will be asking the Home Office to make flying drones even less easy or impossible.
When I contacted east Midlands the second time it was ten minutes, by phone bearing in mind I already had the application form which I had just emailed to them.
No. Think about it. CAA and police. The people that need to know. If anyone is being a prick with a car their number plate is stuck on the front and back anyway.
