Airspace classification

Guys what is the best website for finding out what airspace I’m in?

Forgot to mention, but you probably found it, clicking on the filter button and “Show Advanced” gives you all sorts to choose from …

We are doing mock site planning.

If you take a post code B96 6ES it is airspace D. It is surrounded by a number of small airports, with Birmingham being the biggest.
Is there a way of seeing which airport controls the space by us? Guessing its Birmingham, but not entirely sure.

We don’t need permission to fly in Class D up to our 400ft ceiling.

As to the local ATIS (Air Traffic Information Service), that’s a tricky one … since charts tend to give radio frequencies for areas - and the frequencies are easily found. Telephone numbers for a specific area, though, will be tricky.

The VFR Flight Planning site : https://skyvector.com/ : has probably the best info - though takes some interpretation if you’re not a trained pilot … and still doesn’t help with finding the appropriate Tel.No. (And it doesn’t understand postcodes, either.)

For telephone numbers in general, the best route is via NATS list of AP info.
After clicking on Birmingham, click on “Textural Data”, and the first panel in the pdf gives all the contact info.
Probably the best bet is …

  • 0121-767 1260 (ATC ATIS)
  • or 0121-767 1210 (ATC Watch Manager)
  • or one of the other ATC numbers.
