I cover my self builds in quality gaffer tape
It has a slight cushioning effect and grips well under the battery straps

Hmm good thinking I have some of that gorilla tape in the shed 
I also have 3 working but separate cells left hence was thinking of trying to but another 3s battery 
but not sure of the cable???..
I have the balancing cables just not sure of the positive and negative, have some control cable at work but thats quit stiff
You need silicone covered over extra fine stranded copper wire
This gives the flexibility

Size depends on the capacity and C rating of the cells, usually 12 or 14awg, you could copy what is on a commercial battery of a similar size
Just logged on to them seem to have everything on there 
Mind you had a quick look on Amazon bloody hell, at least Dick Turpin wore a mask !! some people are making some good money on there …
