Just to draw a line under this I have now found the problem, it turned out to be the vista and another dodgy ribbon. Having stripped the vista down and tested against what I new to be a working one I discovered the ribbon that joins the top to the bottom was faulty 
Luckily I hand a spare one so no major cost other than the hours I stood over it trying to fix it…
Any how all sorted now plus the added bonus of it being on 4.3 and the ESC flashed to the latest firmware, so the only thing to add is a big thanks to everyone that contributed towards resolving this.
