Called the airport today to request permission to fly on Blackpool south prom nr pleasure beach, as usual they asked what height I wanted to fly at and I requested 400 ft so I could clear the big one. The person in the atc then told me there is a fight restriction zone over the pleasure beach as security had expressed concerns regarding drones flying over crowds in the Pleasure Beach. I said that I was flying in winter when the Pleasure Beach was closed to avoid flying over crowds of people. Anyone else aware of any problems in this area?
Anyway my request was denied today (not because of the pleasure beach issue but the weather and runway in use, asked to call back if wind direction changes.
I reckon the pleasure beach has complained to the airport regarding drones flying over. But I don’t see why I should be causing concern flying over in winter when it is closed.
I have a flight approval through Airportal for the month of January, I ring when I want to fly. Thus far I have been restricted to 200 ft due to either weather or unduly busy with flights due to weather window. When asked today what height I was requesting I replied 400 ft if possible so I could clear the Big One. It was then commented that there was a flight restriction over the pleasure beach as security had expressed concern over people flying drones over crowds in the pleasure beach.
Today is very busy with helicopters servicing the rigs in the Irish Sea, I can hear one overhead as I’m typing this. So as they are using runway 10 my request for this mornings flight was denied, told I could try again this afternoon when it might be quieter.
@Seadog I had an issue which put a stop on a very nice church i was planing
There are active working bee hives on and next to the church and explained the Avata would be like a moth to a flame to them and if he had wasps i wouldn’t charge them
however i thought it best to abandon all hope after the soul killing dynamic risk assessment regardless of what drone was available and obviously for the bees welfare
