After cutting my drone flying teeth on the HS 510 I’m now the proud owner of a Mini 2. Well I will be tomorrow when I collect it at 9am
I shall need insurance as the thought of losing 549 smackers as it careers off into a tree or wall somewhere fills me with dread. Suggestions please.
I also want to use a bigger screen as the Galaxy S10 I feel is a little on the small side. Will the DJI software work with an iPad Mini and if so anyone know of a good controller adapter that would work?
Anyway, enough from me. Can’t wait to get out around Essex (walking/exercise of course) and make use of a camera with a remote gimble and the new less limited restrictions
I recently bought my Mini 2 and although I have a decent enough screen size on the iPhone 12 Pro Max I wanted something a bit bigger. So, I spent even more money () on an iPad Mini 5. To answer your question, yes, the DJI Fly app works fine with the iPad Mini and to hold it on the controller I bought a tablet extender for just over £11. It is a simple one piece but does the job. For similar money I bought a lanyard for the controller as well to take some of the strain away from holding the controller with the bigger screen. I have included photos of the items.
I would recommend DJI care refresh: from experience I’ve saw elsewhere on this forum they seem to be quite lenient in terms of not particularly fused about what caused the crash, and the ‘excess’ is pretty reasonable given what it is with actual insurance products.
Whatever you do. DO NOT purchase an ipad mini 1.2. 3 or 4 to use with the go fly app.
I have used an ipad mini 4 with my mavic pro using the dji go 4 app which works great.
It will not work correctly with the go fly app for the mavic mini 2.

Thanks WO. Good to know as I have two old iPad 2 Mini’s. Guess I’ll stick to the S10. Missus would rip me a new one if I coughed up for a new iPad as well
Mini 4 works fine … plenty on Ebay for less than £200 as well
it occasionally flashes up cpu overload but I have never known it to drop connection or the app to crash … performs flawlessly with my Air 2 and Mini 2 …
My ipad mini 4 also kept throwing up error cannot download h.264 videos, very frustrating and well documented on mavicpilots.

Nope, ain’t got one yet. Just pointing out that DJI support it on their list.
I might go for a Huawei M5 tablet they have a good rep so far. Until then I will stick with my phone, OnePlus 7t which hasn’t given me any problems (so far).
I’m using S10 with Mini 2. No problem. Screen is bright, screen big enough.
I’ve also bought a S5e and adapters to use it with the drone.
My suggestion would be to fly it with the phone and assess the situation then. If you decide its too small then do research on which tablet to buy. LOADS of advice on here.

Likewise I had indeed have and still got my H501A.
Flew it with various ups & downs! But once I’d seen a guy flying a Mavic I knew what I wanted. I dug deep and bought a Mavic Pro 2 with a smart controller, boy oh boy what a drone, so controllable and refined by comparison.
All that said I haven’t done much in the way of flying owing to either bad weather, lockdown! but moreover I’ve just had a rather big op. which will take a few weeks to be back to norm.
However I’m sure you’ll have great fun with your new purchase.

I find it kind of ironic that at the very time when we cant get out and the weather is terrible DJI come up with and release a game changer of a drone and they fly off the shelves. I wonder how many others like me with a Mini 2 that live in an urban area have their new toys sitting there just waiting for the day we’re allowed to travel to some distance to get to ‘that’ place we’ve been hankering to get to and fly at.
