If?
@PingSpike Rich, you know there’s a progressing Pin Seeker badge, with Bronze, Silver, etc. Well … are there any plans to do the same with the Plonker badge? Just asking for friend
If they are on Playstore
Ah, yes. I am sure I downloaded originally from there. But then the DJI apps were removed. Of course, makes sense now. Cheers Wayne.
I just headed out to my usual stomping ground, which is the highest point in the borough of Swindon at 262 metres ASL, Barbury Castle. It has amazing views, and surrounded for fields for miles and miles. I knew it would be windy there, but at nightime and with the crees, it makes a great drone site.
I forgot my head torch so had to climb the hill to the outer rings using my phone as a torch. When I got to the top, it was blowing a gail.
Which I hope you took full advantage of?
I decided to test the Mini 2 first, as being lighter, it may end in tears, and that way I can use the M2P for recovery I sent the Mini 2 about 500’ head on into the wind, it was snaking all of the place, I’d never seen this before. Just as I reached the 500’ point, I realised I had in Atti mode
At that point, I turned her round 180 degrees, and let her rip. Before I could even look down to see the mph, she was gone. I realised the Mini 2 had just ripped over me and was now about 2,500’ away. I couldn’t see the crees either
The battery was already at 40% so I turned her around, switched into Speed mode, and found the distance to home still increasing. I tried strafing right to return at a different angle, but no joy. I quickly flicked on to Satellite map view and noticed I was above a woods. So I then strafed left to try and get it into a farmers field. That’s when the Critical battery alarm went off, I kept on disabling the RTH, and tried my hardest to get her close as possible to road
What made matters worse is that I had no clue how high I was, as the fields below are about 200’ below me, and the controller was displaying a negative height, something like -172’. Seconds later, I got the dreaded ‘RC disconnected’ … and that was that
I packed up, ran down the hill with my torch (waiting to slip), got into my car, did some Swindon CSI, and guestimated where the Mini 2 crashed. There is a track at the bottom of the hill (can be seen in the photo above), which is ‘Unsuitable for motors’. So I used that, pot holes, mud and pitch black. Thank god for AirData and Google Maps. Together, I found the cauliflower field, and walked down the side through this muddy mess until the Google Maps had me close. I then walked through millions of cauliflowers until … I saw a distant glow of a flashing cree
I was well chuffed to not only find the Mini 2, but also find her in perfect condition
What a plonker.
On the plus side, it was worth it
@OzoneVibe - Dave, 7th place please … faster than @stevesb Mavic 2 Pro
You must have been bricking it and sweating like a ********* wow you are lucky
I didn’t know I run that fast, in the pitch black, down a massive muddy hill.
It was a mixture of adrenaline and panic
I can’t describe the relief when I saw that cree flashing about a 100’ away in the field.
The Mini 2 even saw its arse and turned back into a Chinese drone
电池功率不足,为保证飞行安全,将自动降低飞机机动性,请尽快返航
In English :
The battery power is insufficient. To ensure flight safety, the manoeuvrability of the aircraft will be automatically reduced. Please return as soon as possible (Code: 110013)
I had just Google Translated it when you updated the post. Yep, that was the message nobody wants to see! The whole thing happened so fast. The total flight was 7 minutes, but half of that was flying into the wind before I even started the speed run.
You mad B@$£@&d. Well done.
Cheers Steve, I will most happily take that
Hoooooolllyyyy shit
Now I have a 1 hr window tomorrow, drones have atti enabled again, wind predicted to be 30+ mph if the rain stops, and I can pluck up the courage you never know.
Then again. I’ve got the badge and still hold the record for the 2 pro and zoom so is it worth the risk.
Steve, if I were you, I wouldn’t risk it. Leave it to me mate
