Buying a DJI drone on AliExpress have I been scammed!?

No there must be thousands of these scams, It’s not DJIs issue

What upload button? I could try the copy or paste… I had the WhatsApp communications / images sent back and forth between myself and the seller (Shenzhen Do-Merry Electronic Co Ltd ?) in mind!
In the mean time, I’m going to try and enjoy the Easter Weekend! Hopefully it will stop raining soon. btw I’m planning on selling up and moving / emigrating to Portugal this summer. Getting out of Dodge one might say.
Your warranty comment is Interesting! I must double check that with DJI I would hope that even though we have shot ourselves in the head   We might still be included in some pan-European DJI warranty scheme :crossed_fingers:

Paying via credit card on PayPal actually removes your section 75 protection. However, I’ve always found PayPal much quicker than most UK credit cards (except Nationwide) to resolve things.
Alibaba and AliExpress are market places like eBay, you need to look at the seller feedback. I don’t doubt that DJi use Ali, but there will be 1 or 2 genuine DJI sellers and the rest are middlemen and scammers.
Also, if you’ve used PayPal, Ali are keen to resolve the issue before you get PayPal involved because they need PayPal
Good luck.

Thank you for your response DaveBee  Wow I didn’t know that paying by PayPal using a credit card cancelled out ones section 75 protection… I need to have words with PayPal the agent I spoke to at PayPal told me the opposite…

Ah! Thanks

I can tell you from experience, I nearly fell for the same trap, as I wanted to buy a Mini 3 Pro Plus Battery kit (3870 batteries - the big battries) which is not available in UK

After much research AliExpress then informed me do not buy anything DJI from AliExpress

  • Unless it has the DJI logo on the top of the advert (example EasyFly Store)
  • Read the advert very carefully as the add can contain many versions of the product and different options and of course with each option the price goes up.
  • The price of higher price is often reduced as they do not not collect VAT at the point of sale,
    • Orders shipped from outside of the UK with a goods value above GBP135 will be subject to VAT upon importation into the UK. The price of your order has been adjusted to reflect a later collection of VAT at the customs.
  • Do not purchase any product form AliExpress that has a WhatsApp contact number on the advert or do not contact the WhatsApp number.
  • Read each seller feed back, in particular the product and check there company status
  • Do not by exensive items using external links, directing you to an AliExpress item.
  • AliExpress will tell you, the site is full of bogus sellers and accunt highjackers (like sellers selling plumer goods/tools do not sell drones or teddy bears, etc - so aways check the stores other items).

The other down side is
if you buy from ALiExpress is you have no or very little warranty in UK

    • Dji customer service are not all as great as people seem to think, even for items purchased in UK (I assure you, they are hard work and will run you around in circle with ping pong emails)
  • You will not be able to purchase DJI refresh for the product (well you can but DJI will not honour it)
Do not buy DJI products from AliExpress also even for UK, unless you can not find in UK

Like to day I am looking to buy the DJI Mavic 3 battery kit to get more 2 battries my Mavic 3 Pro, DJI have it at £529 and Argos £430, I just keep watching and checking daily and ebay.

When you weigh everything, you can acutaully get better deals in UK, just keep watching for sales on Amazon, Currys or Argos (but they dont not last long and the price goes back up), if you insist on buying from China, I would recomment ebay you got some protection.

In my case I did purchase the Mini 3 Pro Plus Battery kit (3870 batteries), it was not cheap by ant standards, but it is not available in UK through AliExpress and namely [Cameras Online Store] they sent me the standard kit and when I complained they bluntly refused to take it backand refund me, then AliExpress steped in and I got afll refund after returning the itmen to their AliExpres UK collection point (good experience)

Not to be put off I hen purchased the same Mini 3 Pro Plus Battery kit (3870 batteries) from AliExpress (EasyFly Store) the item araived 2 weeks late full as decribed and correct as I verifed the SN on that DJI verification site.

Hope this helps

Evidence?

Hundreds of positives from the forums here, very few negatives

Myself? A pair goggles left in the sun like a knobhead for only a couple of minutes (drunken big meet), screens burned.

Replaced without question under warranty

Slightly off subjuct and part of the general topic

“If you buy from ALiExpress is you have no or very little warranty in UK
Dji customer service are not all as great as people seem to think, even for items purchased in UK (I assure you, they are hard work and will run you around in circle with ping pong emails”

Evidence? Yes, I fight with them every day
They lost my Air 3s Battery, whilst in transit using their supplied label (whilst in their care) in transit with DPD - What a nightmare, over a straight agreed with DJI warranty exchange to no avail, like I said I fight with them every day.

Every one has their own experience, some good some bad - google DJi poor/bad experiences, you may be surprised!

I have my opinion, you are entitle yous - Thats all I hve to say on that part of the subject

The thread goes on

I have an update!!!:
I was waiting for the so called delivery date to come & go before doing anything PayPal / Section 47 which were the two options I had as a last resort I had also reported my transaction to AliExpress.
Then at the end of last week & out of the blue I receive an email from PayPal telling me that a full refund is on its way from AliExpress!!! So that’s that!  :+1:

As for buying a drone, well referring you back to the very beginning of this thread. I certainly don’t have the cash to buy my ideal drone with DJI RC2 controller and obstacle avoidance (Mini 4 Pro )

And so I have compromised. As I write I am waiting for delivery of a DJI Mavic Pro, fly-more combo, pro camera bag and a few extras. Amongst which are x4 batteries, charger etc.

The batteries only one which was ever used, are all probably US as they have been unused and in storage along with the drone since new, and so I am resigned to very probably having to buy new batteries if that’s what it boils down to. I had emailed the seller laid my cards on the table… made my very very low best offer which was accepted.

This now presents another little problem that I will need advice on. The DJI Mavic Pro (M1P) weighing in at around 734 grams means that I am going to have to get legal aka "Flyer ID & Operator ID before I can fly my Mavic Pro!

How do I go about organising that? Once again any help is very much appreciated  Should I start a new thread with this as a new topic???

If I have understood correctly, getting a copy of “The Drone and Model Aircraft Code” will be very useful when taking the on-line written test?

Which is available as a download on-line, but its 43 pages long! And I’m old-school!
Has anyone managed to get / buy a hard copy, and if so from where?
Diolch / Thank you all  :+1:

No flying over people or near buildings

Check the Drone code posted above

Our own Good2Go is very useful

You need that for any drone & doesn’t give you any “licence” to fly the Mavic pro, only really applies to sub 250g drones. You’re pretty much restricted to flying in open countryside away from people & buildings. You’ll still need the flyer & op I’d (op I’d attatched to drone), to fly. To fly closer to people & buildings you’ll need the A2C of C.

I didn’t do anything special… Just reported the seller to AliExpress and had no intention of claiming back my cash from PayPal, until after the so called delivery date
(1st May 25) when I suspected that there would be no drone delivered!
Apparently Ali Express jumped the gun and informed PayPal that they were refunding the money

I’m not sure that I understand your answer, I know that I will need both a Flyer ID & Operator ID to be legal to fly within the rules and parameters set down by the Civil Aviation Authority and I guess I need some form of insurance. I was looking for some tips from you guys with experience and who have done it! For example is it hard ? easy? any examples of what sort of question they ask… I’m going to make a phone call to the CAA tomorrow to see if I can buy a hard copy of the Drone and Model Aircraft Code: Apparently you can refer to this publication whilst taking the “test” and all the answers are within!?

Please just look at their web site.

Everything you need is on their web site, it’s why they created it.
