Caerlaverock Castle, Dumfries & Galloway

Caerlaverock Castle is a moated triangular castle first built in the 13th century. It was a stronghold of the Maxwell family (who were the Earls of Nithsdale) from the 13th century until the 17th century, when the castle was abandoned.

Beautiful atmospheric video - thanks for sharing. It’s ‘Historic Scotland’ of course, and I see you were able to fly within the castle - did you work with Historic Scotland, or just choose a time when no one was there? I visited it some years ago and it’s on my drone ‘must do’ list, but a bit tricky for take off points outside the boundary.

We flew late in the evening when there was hardly anyone about. The visitor centre closes at 4pm. The castle is surrounding by open fields and woodland so hard to tell which is HES property and which is not. We flew from the edge of the trees, but as we were on closely mown grass I’m guessing we were just on the property.
