Can I fly my drone without a responsible adult?

I am 14 and my parents own a DJI Flip (Sub 250g) that only I mainly fly. My parents don’t mind me flying on my own, I have a Flyers ID (even though not required), and the drone has a valid operator ID by my parents.

  1. Does my parent (holder of the Operator ID) always have to be present when I fly?
  2. Does a responsible adult have to accompany me when flying? (Non necessarily holder of operator ID)

Thank you!

Under the age of 13, so it looks like you are ok to fly on your own

Children under 13

Getting a flyer ID

Children under 13 must have a flyer ID, just like any flyer.

For data protection reasons, children under 13 must have their parent or guardian with them when they take the test to get their flyer ID.

Yet once they have their flyer ID they don’t need an adult with them whilst flying a drone. When they’re taking the test to get the flyer ID, how does the CAA prove the parent is with the child taking the test ?

What they said. I’m 72 and can’t find a resposible adult to supervise me, so you’re not alone, Isaac!

Hi @isaacthere My lad is 14 he’s got his flyer ID. he frequently takes the drones out by himself.

That’s the trouble with old age, lack of continence & responsibilities. Sorry did I say trouble? I meant privilege.

Nah that’s being unable to take anything out by yourself :joy::joy::joy::joy:
