Choreographed Drone Light Shows - General Thread

Out of interest, is there a maximum number of drones / RC’s (all the same brand) being flown at the same time, in close proximity, before everyone’s signal gets confused?

For example - if 100 drone pilots flew the same drone using the same RC’s, would there be issues with transmission channels, causing the drones to malfunction

Ah - essentially an updated application of differential GPS

When I frst used a commercial GPS system, accuracy was reckoned to be half a mile, on a good day ! This was because the military, who owned the satellites, deliberately introduced errors into the signal so enemy forces couldn’t depend on it.
Of course military GPS receivers were able to cancel out the error so were much more accurate. Differential GPS was a commercial service which offered better accuracy…at a price
This practice more or less died out at the end of the cold war.

Moved your post, and the replies, to the thread dedicated to drone light shows. :+1:

This one is both a drone show and an interesting NOTAM (for me at least!)

9pm Campbell Park, 5th October 2024…

I’ve never seen an alert for a ‘swarm’ before!..

First time seeing this sort of thing IRL… actually really impressive.

I spoke to some of the team before hand (aka being nosey whilst they were setting up!)

360 custom 6S drones, all running on proprietary control software. Really very very cool. And the noise when they all move at once is something else too.
