Class Marks - CAA consultation on extension to Legacy and Transitional UAS provisions in the Open Category

Example?

Another hater?

They’ll need a whole thread of their own at this rate…

What are you talking about? This has been their business model since 2006, there’s nothing about to change there

Anyone have any answers to my post from a couple of days ago?

Well, to the best of my knowledge:

“to fly a >900g but <4kg drone under EASA rules now requires the equivalent of A2 C of C?”

Yes, if its a C2 class drone

“Would the UK qualification count in EASA?”

No, the UK qualification is not recognised by EASA and visa versa

“If the CAA adopt EASA C classes unchanged in Jan 26, presumably A2 C of C will be required for say a Mavic Pro 3 or 4?”

Probably not … as under current regs they would be legacy UAS and limited to A3 (as they are >250g)

If the UK recognise EASA classifications they’d be C1 anyway, so still no A2CofC needed.

As always .. I could be wrong so don’t take the above as gospel … its just my interpretation

Thanks, that’s mostly clear, but the Mavic 3 Pro is >900g and is C2 under EASA. The rest of the Mavic 3 range is C1 as <900g I believe. So the Pro needs A2 C of C equivalent in Europe as you say, and probably will need our A2 C of C here after Jan 26.

@BingBong This is a screenshot, Bruce, of the old version 1 page guide out of the CAP 2012, which Sean believed to be similar (defo not guaranteed) to what will happen next year.

Apologies .. yes you’re right, the pro is C2 under EASA, so the additional cert would apply.

Air3/s should come into its own finally.

My turn for the question.

Looking at @D0c.Col 's screen shot, “Privately Built” only appears in A3 which means my 54g tiny whoop is lumped into the same category as a 24.99kg behemoth and can’t be flown within 150m of any sort of building. Have I got that right?

Cheers Colin, according to that, flying A3 doesn’t require A2 C of C for C2 drones, which would be good. A2 C of C only required to reduce restricted distances as now.

Yes, it looks that way. They may come up with a scheme to get legacy drones sorted and maybe kits approved with the correct markings, but who knows!

Is that an Air 3 or Cat A3? I presume you mean cat A3 as the air 3 would likely be C1? So yes.

Cat A3 Colin.

Haha, just edited my message! :+1:

so… do we think the rule changes are expected and justified???

the problem is simply that there are too many people posting clips on youtube with clear infringements of the rules… so what happens… to rules become tighter.

just count your lucky stars they are not changing to the Singapore rules… 60m flight limit

things could always get worse if people keep posting their infingements … think before you post + edit it accordingly!

Or better still, don’t flout the rules in the first place

I get your point though, I have no idea why people insist on incriminating themselves by posting videos online of them flying bvlos, flying fpv without a spotter, flying too close to people/buildings, the list goes on :person_facepalming:t2:

After all, we all speed in our cars and steal pens from work, just don’t post it on Facebook ;o)

When I was working, the quickest way to lose a pen was to lend it to a nurse. :joy::joy::joy:
