Cowden Beach on the East Yorkshire coast is one of the fastest-eroding shorelines in Europe, receding at an average rate of 2.5 to 5 metres per year. This rapid retreat of the soft boulder-clay cliffs exposes hundreds of thousands of live unexploded bombs and bullets from the former RAF Cowden bombing range
Parking on Eelmere Road then walk upto the cliff edge or take a left or right on the cliff paths (on foot, no vehicle access)
Access to the beach is not easy, but there are several very steep paths that have been worn by the fisherman who use the beach.
The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 26/04/2026. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location. Landowner permission may be required before taking off.
Keep an eye on Google maps, everytime I go more of the access road is gone, but its all free parking and a short walk to the cliff edge.
As per the description, there is access to the beach but its by steep walks down the cliffs in the tracks worn down by fishermen and dog walkers, top tip if you want to get to the beach ask a local, there are usually a few people about who will give you directions for the best route to take
Alternatively, you could always park up at Mappleton and walk down from there, there’s a proper access path to the beach. It’s only 3/4 of a mile away?
