DJI is in stock
But my bank account is out of stock
Thats a bugger! tbh if we give it 6months i think sharkbyte and the options we have to use it will be far better anyway.
Thats a fair point Alex still bloody annoyed at myself though lol
Just throwing this out there for all the Sharkbyte people
Seen a lot of comments saying “but flying out in the middle of nowhere means less WiFi signals” this is true but if you’re using TBS gear most of them have WiFi built in I know the tango 2 does because it always annoys me because my phone automatically connects to my tango 2 WiFi without me knowing preventing me from receiving WhatsApp messages while out flying lol
Yeah. It would explain a few things. I’ll run some tests
I think it will still be sometime before I move from analog to digital. I do have two Connex Prosight Digital HD systems. These are similar to the SharkByte system with respect to image quality and latency, but the system is no longer made or supported. So if I trash a camera or VTX that’s the end.
The SharkByte system uses the Divimath processor. This semiconductor has been around for quite a few years, and in terms of SC lifespan it is close to being a Grand Daddy. When it’s replacement is released the question is will it be backward compatible so that the existing SharkByte hardware will work with it, or will the user have to buy into another new system? Rumours are already out there after the recent price reduction of the current SharkByte system.
In the case of the DJI system one has to ask themselves as to how long DJI will support it. DJI have a history of dropping support with little or no warning. Their systems are proprietary and when a system is retired the I.P. Is buried with it.
I’m now using the Skyzone SKY04X goggles. Like the FS HD02’s (they both use the same OLED screens as do the Orqa analog goggles) they have a far superior image handling capability to the DJI Goggles, both as far as image reproduction and optical quality. If DJI wanted to increase their market share in Digital FPV they could make an external digital unit similar to the Fatshark receiver. This sort of tells me that DJI are not serious about this system, or in it for the long haul, otherwise they would have done this already.
There has been some talk of ImmersionRC and Orqa combining their skills to produce a HD system. They already have a partnership allowing the Orqa goggles to remotely interact with ImmersionRC’s Tramp and Ghost systems, and Orqa are IRC’s main European distributor now.
For the moment, and the foreseeable future, I’m more than happy with my SK04’s combined with a quality analog camera that I have no urge to go digital. At least not until there is more choice, availability, and price options.
The skyzone and hdo2 screens are great aren’t they! Really like the adjustable diopters too.
That they are, especially when you input a HD signal via the HDMI port. Even though I’ve not been able to fly for the last two to three months I’ve been using mine everyday to watch Netflix and Prime Video while in bed, with an Amazon Firestick plugged into the HDMI port.
I nearly went with the HD02’s but it was Skyzone’s inclusion of a ReadyMix receiver, the option for Quadversity, and the H264 DVR, that won me over. That and the price. Skyzone have recently updated the SK04’s with a new DVR board that records at 60fps. Not to be out done I’ve ordered the new board which hopefully will be here next week.
You made the right choice. My hdo2 hdmi module has been replaced twice now. I would have gone for the skyzones, but they were out of stock and I was far too impatient.
Looks like its on 2.4ghz so ok.
Here is an interview with the owner and designer of the shark byte system. It’s an hour long, but there’s lots of information in it. You can sense the passion from the guy and were he wants the system to go.
Just curious did anyone jump on the Shark Byte train the other week when it was heavily discounted?
I looked but those that were advertising the discount price had no stock, and those that had stock wanted RRP.
Yeah I missed out too. Put it in my basket and left it till the next day to contemplate, when I went back it was too late Are you still considering it as an option Nidge?
DJI for the win!
I am, Steve. I now have what I consider to be one of the three best goggles currently available, once you try OLED there’s no going back to LCD. If DJI were to release a plugin module similar to the FS SB I could be tempted.
I’m also keeping a close eye on the ImmersionRC and Orqa alliance, and there’s been quite a bit of chatter about Skyzone doing something with DFPV. I sense that these three companies, and most likely others, may start working with the Divimath and HDZero hardware at some point.
Ok so I’ve just bit the bullet and purchased a Shark Byte receiver lol Now I need a decent camera and vtx to go with it. Thoughts anyone?
Wait a couple of weeks for the camera. The new one should be for sale on the below website. Be quick though, as it will sell in hours, if that.
There are 2 200mw vtx, a tx5s.1 and tx5r.1, both odd sizes.
There is 1 500mw vtx similar to the tbs unify pro hv.
There will be a tx5L.1 1watt vtx coming, but not yet. Still being field tested.
The tx5r.1 seems the strongest, its just weather it will fit your frame.
Cheers Karl I will wait for the camera mate. Do I need to create an account on that site to order from them? Also how long do you think until the 1W vtx is available? Is it worth waiting on that too? I’m not in a major rush so don’t mind waiting
