No, that’s not what I mean. The pics are defo coming out 12 MP or 50 MP according the file properties; what I want to know is if the primary camera sensor is a genuine 50 MP, or a lower resolution sensor having its resolution uplifted by a Quad Bayer overlay, like the secondary camera does (secondary camera is a 12 MP camera uplifted to 48 MP by a QB overlay).

It’s the other way round isn’t it, 48MP sensor that outputs a 12MP image due to QB. That way you are getting 4 sensor pixels for every image pixel. And why you can force the sensor output to give 48MP image files.
Edit : yep, looks like Motorola have a 50MP sensor in their phones so you end up with a 12.5MP image.

Yep; soz, you’re right. And so you’ve found a QB sensor that’s 50MP in Motorola; thought we only had 48 MP so far.
I literally asked DJI:
“is the new 1” sensor a genuine 50 MP sensor, or is it ‘effective 50 MP’ using a Quad Bayer overlay like the secondary camera?"
and the reply I got was:
“Hi Ian,
Genuine 50 MP, which can also used as 12MP”
This was from my usual contact at DJI Europe who I deal with regularly… So I’m still wondering what is really behind the lens…
Not sure if its been mentioned or ask but what is the slowest speed of the air 3s? Can you slow its speed down to 1 ms?
If it’s anything like the Chinese high end phones that have 1” sensors, probably a Sony IMX989 or LYT-900
Yes, we need a detailed comparison of 12MP versus 50MP JPGs and Raws (both edited and not). The video from the mad Dane above has some useful comparisons, but obviously stills need to be viewed natively, not via video.
The other thing that doesn’t get mentioned is the Air 2S 1" sensor is 3:2 and 20MP native, whereas the Air 3S is 4:3 (and 12 or 50MP?) native. This probably explains the loss of the 5.4K video.
My main concern is corner sharpness, as that seems to have been a weakness in most recent drones, even the Four Thirds sensor in the M3 series. Camera QC seems to have been a problem. I had to return my first Air 2S. The problem is probably made worse by heavy reliance on software distortion removal to keep lens design cheaper and simpler. Any misalignment of the lenses will get magnified.
What’s annoying is that I have bloody controllers galore

I’m definitely going to get this one as I did not think it justified jumping from air 2s to 3.
I bloody wish I bought neo without controller as it looks like I will have to own 2 DJI RC-N3 controller put in a cupboard gathering dust while I use my DJi RC 2 to fly the mini 4 pro and 3s.
Before anyone says why did I buy the DJI RC-N3 for the neo if I already have a DJi RC 2, as I knew my grandson and cubs will be borrowing it every time my back was turned and I’m right I’ve seen it twice since buying it. 
what’s funny none of the idiots didn’t realise it automatically recorded until I shared on family WhatsApp 
my cuddy 36 had a hissy fit when she realised this 
I suspect because she might have been caught out but I already know that she smokes but she adamant she does not

Same predicament apart from I had loads of batteries so got the cheapest package and a controller il probably never use. I dont believe DJI ever released the Mini4 pro as a drone only so you may be out of luck.
You may be glad of the spare controllers when the batteries start to get tired or sticks start to wear out and feel loose.

Mine arrived yesterday but typical UK weather still have not been able to fly it hope to get out tomorrow and film some Surf Rescue Footage

Just doing that big update that you have when first setting up then goin for a night flight. It hasn’t rained here for around 2 hrs, I’ll bet me house on it just as the updates done, it lashes down:face_with_symbols_over_mouth:.
Sposed to be ok tomorrow, so I’ll give it a crack then if not tonight. Really wanted to see the night footage though. Again, tommorrows another day👍. Looks impressive though.

Signal brilliant ( I’m used to FCC mode, so was expecting total pants. Not the case. Not FCC, but still solid)
Gonna take a peak at the snaps I took, but going off the ones from the 3S I’ve already had a mail with, they should be sound.
You may notice how surprisingly quiet it is.

Tbh Ian, I made that statement before gettin me mits on the Rc2. What I had in mind I think, well was, was the original RC. After dusting the cobwebs off the RC from the depths of the drone cupboard, looking at the RC2 in comparison, they have made the controller more RC pro ish, but it still feels as though it’s manufactured by Fischer Price:rofl:. But, I suppose, as long as it works and dose the job, I’m happy:+1:

At the end of the day all they’ve done is strip the Pro down and made some more bucks out of us.
I’m gonna miss that little joystick fella on the Pro though amongst other things…
You were not wrong I love it and the tracking mode is awesome - I don’t think I will be using my Mavic 3 Pro anymore !

I thought the RC Pro was hopelessly overpriced and would fall into obsolescence too quickly; paying for the bright screen and no different to their ‘smart controller’, which you can see me being a merchant of doom over all those years ago… (so young; so full of dreams… ) Jump in to around 2 mins to go down memory lane of old models, and see the soothsayer in action…

Yeah, there’s no doubting that, it’s DJI isn’t it. But at least it fealt and looked quality in my opinion. The first RC looked and fealt cheap, the RC2 doesn’t really do any better in my opinion. You’ve only gotta take a look at the speed button, which ‘wobbles’ and the antennas look like someone on here’s printed them . They seemed to of used some kind of cheaper plastic than the Pro.
All in all, I know what your saying about the price of the pro and it isn’t compatible with the newer drones(I’m damn sure DJI could do ‘something’ about that), but it’s a damn good controller and feels quality.
The RCs feel like they’ve been subbied out to a different manufacturer, because they don’t, to me, feel like the usual quality feel from DJI.
The end of the day though the RC2 does the job, so I’ll grin and bear it and go do lots of flying with the shiny new 3S😁
