I’m of the opinion that consumer camera drone tech cannot really go any further than it already has. Each individual has a wish list of what they hope the “next big thing” will have, but will it be leaps and bounds above what we’re already flying?
DJI are pretty much now the only players in the COTS drone market and are themselves struggling to do something different to what they’ve been doing since the release of the Mavic Pro and the Phantom 4, with the exception of the Mini2 being the first sub-250g drone with 4K and a respectable flight time, and within the price bracket of what a casual user would be prepared to pay.
I have a simple choice, Mavic 3 or divorce . But, to be serious for a minute, unless there’s a significant benefit to be gained by upgrading (?) from the Mavic 2 Pro I’ll not bother. For too many years I spent a fortune upgrading all sorts of stuff, particularly hi-fi gear and cameras, but eventually the law of diminishing returns kicks in and the financial costs outweigh the benefit. I’ve had my current h-fi gear for 10 years and my camera for 15+ and have no intention of changing unless they die. I have a Mavic 2 Pro and a Mini 2 which pretty much covers anything I’d use a drone for so no plans to upgrade to a Mavic 3 if one is released. Although, maybe?
