They were just after the perfect golden hour shots and wanted to blend in sufficiently that they wouldn’t attract the attention of Jerry and then have to remove puffs of ack-ack in Photoshop before entering the RAF’s RTF Challenge for the week.
It certainly won’t have been to blend in with clouds - if there’s any cloud cover the RAF don’t leave the hotel.
