Not going off topic I thought at first maybe it was due to sticking it in Atti mode & going flat out but then again was a guess at the time & could be anything ….
That was a guesstimate from the last time I had to buy one
I’m missing something here; one is told in the manual not to try and fly the drone in damp conditions never mind wet ones. I was unaware that the motors would be ok and assumed that they would be the main weakness, but the camera & gimbal are still completely exposed, and the drone has ventilation through which water can find it’s way inside, where it can play havoc with the circuitry and probably short out batteries, which would be a fire risk.
The ‘wet suit’ skins can do nothing to prevent this, and if the ventilation was covered the drone would be likely to overheat (that might at least dry put the wet interior!). Not to mention that the wet suit will probably take a 249g drone over the weight limit!
… check out the videos on the manufacturers site https://www.phantomrain.org.
Main source of problem is water ingress at switch position on batteries and sealing of battery compartments. Vents can be an issue on certain drones. The wet suits allow you to fly in the rain. The rescue jackets allow you to land/take off on water.
All these problems are addressed and described and displayed in videos on the web site.
Not sure I’d trust them for landing on water - especially salt water - but for flying SAR in the rain I think they’d be worth a try.
- certainly cheaper than a Swellpro
Rain water is not very conductive. It is essentially distilled water. I very much doubt it will short the batteries. When you have a faulty battery, it is a known method to plonk it in salty water. The salt makes the water conductive and shorts out the battery, albeit acting like a resistor and discharging it slowly and safely. It will however cause corrosion to form, which is most definitely not good!!!
Theres sealed bearings and sealed bearings. From how easy drone motors spin Il be cautious that these is just a bit of dust resistance included and not extensive sealing from heavy rain.
Must be watching GADC threads
