Drone for 10 year old who 'just wants to fly a drone'

They keep changing the rules no wonder there’s so much confusion

Dude that was about a year and a half ago

Not been paying attention to them as I generally just fly my whoops and sub 250g quads now.

Hi, I have a tello with the tello FPV app and a pix link wifi extender as I considered a drone and did not want to spend a great deal and I have found it to be great, easy to use even the 9 year old next door has a go and gets on great with it. Will use for a year or so and will then upgrade and give tello to 9 year old. Would recommend.

I have a Tello (with the game controller) from when I was learning to fly a drone. It has some quirks- for example, to do an IMU calibration you need to work quickly as it overheats after a few minutes non-flying. BUT- you can fly it indoors and there is a full cage available for it, so you can pinball it off the walls. Much better than slicing the leaves off the houseplants with the props when trying to pop it down on a windowsill

They are decent enough to be worth flying, but not massively costly. Proper gateway drug as it were.
