The weak link in your 3 stage description is the middle part. Enforcement for drone related issues is very niche, the knowledge around drone usage and law is very low, and generally unless a large scale issue arises, or something happens that is very much in the public interest by way of heightened media interest / continual repeat offenders, then no action or investigation is taking place. The rules are complex and convoluted and I include myself in the category of not being an expert on them. But I do know a great deal about enforcement, and how these matters are approached and dealt with. Generally any complaint made by someone that a drone has taken off from place x, or flown over place y will be “recorded” and closed instantly unless it involves 1) an airport, 2) a risk to life or 3) a serious or major concern e.g. large scale planned event, military sites etc etc.
Your average flyer, going out and trying to follow the rules isn’t going to be coming under the spotlight unless a whole host of other aggravating factors are in play.

Thanks Pirbright - makes sense the police would attend to the more serious infractions.
There are also huge regional variations in police response, and my comments relate to large urban force areas. Despite that, even amongst the more rural counties, drone law and enforcement to my knowledge remains something that very few know how to deal with.

“All unmarked drones over 250g will only be permitted to be flown in the A3 Subcategory.”
I have Mavic Air 470g or so. The reason I was taking the A2 CofC was to fly in SubCategory 2. Looks like I can’t when the new regulations take effect.

my understanding is the new regs ( if they come into effect next year ) will only be applicable to type approved (UK classification ) drone ( there are none currently and its not clear if you can apply the classification retrospectively ( think in the EU you could do so to the Mini 4pro maybe others and the software locked things like hight )
All current rules will still stand and apply to none classed drones till what ever time the legacy drone rules will be in place ( a few years at least so as not to upset people who have just paid 1000’s on new hardware before the rule change )
So you should still be good to go and the A2 CofC will have a benefit to you and others flying drones over the 250g weight.
