Hi nottsjules.
It’s a small world. Gedling Country Park was one of my first thoughts until I read their bylaws
. I’m thinking of going just over the road from there to Lambley Dumbles; have you been there?
Thanks,
G.

I’m in Hucknall, so only 6-8 miles away.
If you head slightly north of the county, towards Mansfield there’s several places to fly your drone.
There’s the old Rainworth Colliery site just off the A617.
Further a field there is Thoresby Park & Hall.
Stay clear of Burntstump, it’s the Notts Police Head Quarters and I’ve been pulled for flying there.
There’s Newstead Abbey, if you go early or late in the day, park in Newstead Village or Ravenshead then walk in, it’s FOC for pedestrians.
There’s the old headstocks at Brinsley, I uploaded a short video to this site.
Bennerly Viaduct near IKEA, just over the border into Derbyshire too
Have you thought about long exposure night photos over one of the many busy around you?
This is less than 1 mile from mine, so it was a steady walk just before sunset
Happy flying
Thanks The Binman, some great ideas there and none too far away.
I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks,
G.
Finally managed to get out and do some flying this morning after an aborted back garden attempt during the week, the dog went mental, absolutely hated the drone ![]()
Took it up to an area near me known as The Dumbles (village of Lambley), there’s a small field enclosed by trees on either side, so nice and quite. I did a few of the training exercises outlined in the video posted by jhdee. First thing I noticed was how sensitive the controls were and how heavy my touch was so definitely need to work on that also flying in a circle, wow, that will take some time to master!
I took some panoramic videos of the surrounding country side and on viewing them back I can see the result of my heavy touch, clearly too fast, ah well live and learn.
I checked on dronscene before I went out to fly that the area was safe but whilst I was there at least 4 light aircraft flew almost directly above me. I bought the drone down each time I saw one so no issue there in the end but it did surprise me, they must be higher than I thought. RAF Syerston is to the East but I was well outside of that.
All in all a good morning, I learned so much in such a short time.

It’s well worth watching @ianinlondon video around setting up for smoother flight by altering the Expo and Gain settings. It makes the drone less twitchy in flight when shooting.
I know it says Air 2S but it’s the same for the 3 Pro.
@Onanist thanks for posting the video and @ianinlondon thanks for making it. I managed to get a short flight in at Stoke Bardolph on the side of the river Trent this afternoon, the tips made a huge difference to the handling. Still some fine tuning to do and obviously I need to keep gaining experience but I think I’m headed in the right direction.
Thanks guys,
G.
