BREAKING NEWS

Illegal drone flyer in Spain causes forum bust-up in UK!

In both cases it’s claimed there was just a misunderstanding.

It’ll be interesting to see how the Spanish authorities will collect a £174k fine (if they impose that amount; the MEN seems to be making a bit of an assumption before the actual event as well as displaying other indications of lazy journalsm) from someone who will be very unlikely to afford it even paying by installments!

Not that someone overflying a crowded festival, allegedly from his hotel 2km away, doesn’t deserve everything he gets! He’s well BVLOS from his hotel (do we even know if his balcony was facing the festival?) and risking collision with the 3 authorised drones he probably doesn’t know are there. Stupid beyond belief!!!

Trial by media

Gatwick anyone?

Indications of lazy journalism

Can’t think of any online papers that make it easy to read an article or find the snippet of truth buried in adverts.

they are never going to collect 174k euro.

it is just a starting point for discussion. if you got such a fine do you think it would be payable? most people I know don’t have 174k sat in a bank account or in assets, sure if you are a drug, arms or whatever dealer or a water company chief exec but for most common folk / cannon fodder that I know they don’t have that available.

it is not possible for the courts to automatically seize your house (if you have 2 or more then those would be assets, but for most people a bog standard house could not be seized …. but like most things in life it depends…..

also the rulling was in Spain….. not the UK (presumably that person lives here and is here now so unless he is extradited it cannot be enforced and I don’t know about you but when I go on holiday I don’t take 174k of assets with me so it’s a starting point to begin discussions about a fine.

any fine cannot cause undue hardship and suffering, and especially not to those who are not involved in the offence….. ie if I got that fine I have a house, wife children (of supported age….. not just unwilling to leave the nest but actually below 18)

so they would never be able to take my house unless it was gained from illegal means (or if I was the duke of York and living in oppulant surroundings, sorry we get side tracked, as he would not be breaking a sweat even)

I think the only place I read he is facing a fine, rather than already fined, is in the Coverdrone reporting of the case.

UK courts can take direct from wages or benefits, assign bailiffs, work a payment plan or send you to prison. There is no guarantee a large fine will result in ‘getting away without paying some serious percentage of it’!!! Anyway, the flyer was a knob and I’d rather not be in their shoes waiting to see what happens next. He certainly won’t make it through a Spanish airport again unchallenged.

Yeh, I get that, but at least this time, he thankfully explains, in writing, the crap that the so called journal put out!

Substack is worth reading for debunking unhinged bile written in the Telegraph and Daily Maily / Express etc but… whilst the headline is as you say attention grabbing/clicky, it’s way closer to matching the fine value this guy could receive IF the range of penalties is as described. Its unlikely this guy is going to get the equivalent of a speed awareness course unless the descriptions are inaccurately translated/misunderstood

Wait… Geeksvana is taking the moral high ground on clickbait? Geeksvana??
