Hello chaps
So there’s been a few drones flying over our housing estate recently (rightly or wrongly, I know that’s another debate altogether!) and it got the local Facef##k warriors ferociously typing away with all sorts of comments whether they’re truths, lies or just general shite (just doesn’t seem to bother some people what they write!)
But one definately got my attention…“if it comes over here I’ll shoot it with my .22 air riffle”
Now straight away I was more worried about the idiot (who wasn’t the only one) who would suggest he would discharge a pellet from within his back garden than a drone flying over!
I’m not saying you can’t shoot in your garden and when set up correctly you legally can, which I used to when I was younger but it just got me thinking could an air rifle actually do some serious damage to a drone?
When I used to hunt I would zero my scope in at 25 yards and no way would I attempt to shoot anything 40 yards away.
Wind and gravity have a huge effect on a pellet and I’d imagine shooting straight up would be very difficult indeed?
There’s guys on here I’m sure like #Matty1 who would have far more knowledge on air rifles than me and even though they are made with similar materials and precision as firearms they ain’t firearms. (Unless someone’s been naughty and jacked it up!)
So at 50/60m high what do you think the odds of hitting one and causing it some serious damage would be?

A full powered air rifle would definitely bring the toughest of drones down but it would be illegal and could bring armed charges against them, shooting on back garden is totally legal as long as no pellet leaves your property boundary and if it does you could get done for armed trespass, if someone shot a drone down he could be in serious trouble even if the drone was over their property because it’s not shooting in a safe manner and they can’t legally shoot at someone’s property even if it’s hovering over or near their property, hope I haven’t droned on a bit lol, I shoot vermin at a max of about 40yds but hit spinners at over 100yds so yes at up to 100mtrs an air rifle would still seriously damage a drone
I hear that air riffles are even more devasting though. I think I read that being hit with a riffle pellet is akin to a tiny weeny thermonuclear blast and so would send a drone into another dimension.
Mine are PCPs a lot more lethal than the springers and so much more consistent and shooting just a fraction under the legal limit, mine are checked regularly as I shoot on gentry estates so have to make sure I stay legal 
and yes a pellet is damn painful, even at 100yds away they’ll pierce denim and a good inch of flesh lol

I went to an open day at a nearby drone seller and at the end of the day they decided they were going to shoot a drone down using a BB gun. I don’t know how many times they had to reload and fire burst before they eventually hit one that was hovering so I would think anyone would have to be up to Olympic gold medal standard to hit one with a single shot from an air rifle. Sounds like the person on Facebook was blowing hot air.

Apart from the odds of hitting one with an air pellet, it’s actually a serious criminal offence to fire at an aircraft, our multi rotor drones are classed as aircraft. I’d be tempted to point this out to the dickwad on facetwit that of he did carry out his threat, he will definitely be getting a visit from the rozzers.
The bill would love that, give them a break from shuffling the homeless about in the high street and guarding tescos car parks.
Ok. On the next meet, I will bring a bb rifle. It’s pretty much a toy and shoots plastic 8mm balls. I will fly and if you can hit me, i’ll buy you a cold one. If you can bring me down, i’ll buy you two lol.

I have heard nothing but good about them. Pricey though. I have also seen the hdo2 from fatshark in person. And they where amazing!
If your staying in the analogue avenue, either of these will be good.

Agree with all the comments on here. I have several firearms, including an air rifle and have been an instructor, county marksman and I’ve even shot SA80’s and Brens etc for the military.
Shooting air rifles into the air is incredibly dumb and illegal. If however, someone was lucky enough to hit a drone, it could easily do damage. How catastrophic it would be is debatable. I’ve shot drones with a shotgun and the operator said it’s only once been taken out of the sky in 8 years. It would be fun filming someone try… Knowing you were collecting evidence to put the prat in jail
