Hi All,
Does anyone know a safe place to practice flying my drone. I just taking my licence on line but will need to take a practical test at the end. I have a Mavic Air so only small.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards Chris

Looking at https://www.arcgis.com/apps/Viewer/index.html?appid=0aac22685d2f4d78a2a3b0a5aa1660db quite a lot of the coast north and south of Weston is Crown Estate foreshore, so available to fly drones when the tide is low and avoiding times when the beaches are busy.
To practice for your flight test I’d suggest you need a field or similar. You’ll be doing figure 8s centred over one spot which can be tough to judge over the sea/beach.
OOI Lee, how do they judge that specific aspect?
Is it just a “you’re in the general area” or are they more specific? And it’s judged how - from your flight data or viewing your screen with the camera pointing straight down?
Just being nosey at this stage as I’m intrigued.
They’re looking for control and evenness which mine was judged by eye. You need to demonstrate that you can control it in both left and right turns with it facing both towards and away from you; it’s trickier than you think!
The best way to practice that (I found) was to use a fence post or dump my backpack out there and ensure I always crossed over that point. Same with squares etc, you need a reference point to start/end the shape. I’d then look back at the flight logs to make sure my shapes were good
Thanks Kvetner,
I wasn’t aware that could fly drones in these areas. Not far from me so a good option.
Thanks leeheyes,
I have the test plans so know what the tests are and a field would be ideal.
Cool - thank you for that.
I should caveat my request by saying I have no intention (at this stage) of going for a pfco, but these things do interest me.
