Elan Valley - the Craig Goch and Claerwen dams

The Elan Valley in mid-Wales is one of my favourite places in the UK to visit, be it for walking or photography (or both!).

When I saw an open-day advertised to explore inside one of its 5 dams (Pen Y Garreg), I jumped at the chance and was hoping for a rare piece of decent weather to take my drone along – I’m pleased to say I wasn’t disappointed

I normally stay away from the place during school holidays as it tends to get a bit busy for flying and photography but took my chances earlier this week.

Despite the swarms of cars and a fair smattering of optimistic ice cream vans around the place, I got a few decent hours early in the morning to do some droning around the Craig Goch and Claerwen dams – see below

I’ve not seen all the reservoirs this full before with water cascading over the tops of the dams. Impressive to see from the air, but its not until you get up close on the ground you get a sense of the power of the flow

I’ll post some of the non-drone shots I took in the non-drone photo and video thread as well
