Flight restriction in place

I’m due to be flying near Thurrock on Monday for have seen this notice pop up, can anyone shed any light on exactly what it means? Is it a NFZ temporarily? I’ve called the NATS number but just got the answerphone.

The idiot answer is

This NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) indicates a temporary reserved area (TRA) activation in Southwark, London. The TRA will be active on January 20, 2025, from 09:00 to 16:00, with altitude limits from the surface (SFC) to 450 feet above mean sea level (AMSL). The area is bounded by specific coordinates and is designated for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) unmanned aircraft system (UAS) operations. Emergency services and military operations requiring immediate access should contact Heathrow Radar on 125.625 MHz. For other crewed aircraft or visual line of sight (VLOS) operations, access requires contacting the operator 72 hours prior to operations commencing on 020 4592 3223. Further details can be found on the NATS UK website.

Use Drone Scene

Some dude is planning to fly beyond visual line of sight the whole day.

If they are legally flying BVLOS then I’ld imagine they are serious as that authorisation isnt easy to come by.

I’ld try to postpone your job to be on the extra safe side.

Notaminfo.com/uk might have more info along with dronescene ofc if you cant change dates.

Thanks, i will keep trying NATS too, as a very limited area and time i’d be flying, just to check.

I keep getting their answerphone, stupid question, but are they normally accessible on weekends? Never had to deal with them before.

Me neither,

I’ld assume they are office hours based so not at the weekend.

I tend to file a flightplan with my details attached and hope i dont get a phone call

Maybe you can designate a competent person as an oberserver to add another layer of bum covering along with a flight log?

I’m sure there are others here that have more experience in these situations. I’m just a bumbling amateur waiting for some hawks to bugger off so i can fly.

No worries,appreciate the advice.

Looks like that restriction is in place at least all of next week, so makes you wonder exactly what is happening.

Just looking, for another job in another area next week, despite drone assist showing no issues, elsewhere i’m seeing a load of messages like this, again, assume that means no flying?

That’s probably to do with some of the other air restrictions in place at the moment near & over military places, some are mentioned in this Thread Here in the uk :+1:

Ditch drone assist, seriously

Seems the best plan! What’s the best place for checking for restrictions?

Thanks Kirky, yes could well be. Assuming the best plan is to call NATS to seek permission?

You could give it go calling them to seek permission but not sure how strict there being at present, my local lake where I sometimes fly is covered with a temporary extended restriction till the same date as the one you posted which is Burgfield AWE .

Yes I am wondering, especially as on this one, there are about 6 different restrictions listed.

Dronescene is the only site you need. It’s been developed for drone enthusiasts, by drone enthusiasts. Seriously, it’s all you need. And you already have it as you’re an insured member, no more guessing! Have any questions about it? Ask in here for a pretty much immediate response from members and the developers. Try gettting a response from the others within 24 hours never mind 30 minutes!!!

Dronescene isnt alone with not always being upto date, Drone assist is another example. no fault of the site. Some information just isnt polled completely, eg all notam’s.

Imo best to check multiple sources as mentioned already when your dealing with this sort of thing.

Both recommended by the CAA, both get data from the same place.

:man_shrugging:

Both locations i’ve checked on Dronescene and neither list the restrictions

Seems the best plan, thanks Nik
