What weight was the drone @bobflyman?
Small enough to fit in the palm of my hand! ha, I just weighed it 22.7 gms. When I e mailed the CAA I asked what about even a pocket sized drone.
We are still so far behind the curve compared to other countries.
In Canada they do have some quite heavy restrictions on models over 250grams AUW, but below this weight there is no regulation whatsoever.
New Zealand have a definition known as shielded operation. This allows you to fly any model anywhere as long as you don’t exceed the height of the nearest natural or man made structure. There is also no special requirement if you want to do commercial work with a drone.
This just goes to show how things can go from the sublime to the ridiculous. A flying toy of just 22.7g is not allowed but you can buy explosives from your local garden centre and launch them 100’s of feet into the sky from the same suburban property.
Nidge.
A hot air balloon can cruise over my neighbourhood with 20 people hanging over the side of the basket with cameras / binoculars in hand.
Pretty sure the legislation does not say that. 50m restriction is for camera drones only. Without a camera, it is as per @callum’s response above.
The other get out of jail free card is put up bird netting at a height you want to fly under and all 4 sides and the you can fly what you want, as long as the drone can’t fit through the holes. And just take into consideration your neighbor’s privacy.
Should of burn,t her house down, preferably with her in it…
Hot Air Balloons - They look pretty though - Thats why. People really are that shallow!
That reminds me @stevesb , I need to source some 400ft poles to support some netting.
