I will be in canada for 3 weeks next month visiting places where my wife grew up ( Toronto, Ottawa, Quebec, Montreal areas). I was going to take my mini 5 pro but checking their equivalent of Drone Scene almost all national parks and cities have restricted airspace and so few opportunities to fly where we are going.
Has anyone had experience of flying in Eastern canada around the big cities? Is it as restricted as it looks. I am beginning to think it is not worth taking my drone and sticking to my SLR’s

Maybe take a scroll through youtube and check out videos posted there - the YT title will provide some context as to the ‘credibility’ of those who post that content?
As it happens I just might be off to Alberta in October and have been looking at this.

I had similar concerns prior to bringing my drone on a recent trip to the UK. In that case local knowledge was a big help; so here’s my two cents worth: Exclusion zones around major airports means the air space over most Canadian cities is off limits to drones. And TOAL within the boundaries of national is generally forbidden. That said, it’s a BIG country and there’s lots of space in between. In my experience (living in Canada) the restricted zones shown in the DJI Fly app are accurate enough for planning purposes. Do your research, verify on the day of and fly responsibly. IOW bring your drone!

PS: I use IOS app UAV Forecast for planning and verifying flyable areas. I’m sure there are other apps and websites with accurate information, but this one has served me well both at home (Canada) and in the UK.
