DJI Mavic 3 Classic drone

Plus the DJI Mavic 3 Fly More kit, a total of four DJI batteries, and a number of other accessories.

The Classic version of DJI’s flagship Mavic 3 series, this drone is a joy to fly. The controls are intuitive and, with the RC controller’s built-in screen, you can be up in the air in moments capturing images from a whole new perspective. The built-in Active Track, Hyperlapse, Panorama and Quick Shot modes will have you quickly creating content you’ll be proud to share, whilst the omnidirectional obstacle sensing (APAS 5.0), high-precision positioning and advanced Return to Home functionality help to keep even the most inexperienced pilot safe.

Despite the ease of use, the Mavic 3 Classic is an absolute powerhouse. With its 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad Camera, it effortlessly bridges the gap between consumer and professional drones and I have used this drone on multiple occasions to shoot footage for television broadcast.

Key features

  • 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad Camera
  • 20 MP Effective Pixels
  • 5.1K / 50fps 4K / 120fps Video
  • 10-bit D-Log

  • 24mm Equivalent Focal Length

Hi Joe is the drone suitable for an absolute no clue how to use a drone person like myself or is it for a pro??

Hi Iain,

In terms of learning the practical side to flying a drone and take excellent photos/videos, I think the Mavic 3 is as good as any of the other DJI consumer drones. It flies just the same as the Mini or Air drones and has all the same safety features. In fact, my first drone was a Mavic 2 and I was up and flying within ten minutes.

What gives me pause in saying it’s 100% suitable is that the weight puts it in the higher class of SUAV with the CAA, and that comes with added restrictions.

If you take the A2 Certificate of Competency (a couple of days reading the manuals and a pretty short online exam) you can fly the Mavic 3 anywhere that smaller drones can, as long as you stay 50m away from any uninvolved people. Without the A2 CofC you also need to stay at least 150m from residential, commercial, industrial and recreational areas (i.e. you need to be out in rural areas away from any buildings, etc).

Depending on where you plan to fly, that might not be a problem. But you’d be hard pressed finding anywhere to fly it in Edinburgh - for that you probably want to look at something like the Mini 4 which is much lighter and, therefore, has a lot fewer restrictions.

Edit: You can blame Brexit for the restrictions… in the EU the Mavic 3 is a C0 drone, which means you’re pretty much free to fly it anywhere you like so long as there aren’t airspace restrictions and you stay away from crowds.

You can of course run all the scenarios of where you can fly what and with what restriction depending on the ‘qualifications’ you hold
