Fun and Friendly Edit Comp Sunday 12th Dec - Sunday 19th Dec

This is the new thread for this week’s edit comp. Well done to @Drumsagard @kvetner @Sandbagger for their winning edits :clap:t2: :clap:t2::clap:t2:

John @Drumsagard will upload the new WeTransfer link shortly

To enter just download the image from the wetransfer link and edit away with any software you like. When you’re happy with your edit post the final jpeg back here. The winner each week will supply the image for the next comp. If you win but can’t supply an image let us know and then 2nd place can supply the next image. It is preferred to supply a RAW image for editing if possible but if not a jpeg will do.

Rules:
*You may remove items from an image but cannot add any new elements to the image e.g. changing the sky (you can still post edits with added elements for fun but they will not be entered into the vote)
*You can post as many edits as you like but only one will be entered into the vote, you need to make clear which edit you want entered for the vote, if its not made clear your latest edit will be entered in the vote.
*Your entry must be posted by 8pm Sunday evening every week.
*You can’t vote for your own edit. If you vote for your own edit your edit will be disqualified and the edit with the next most votes will take your place on the podium.

Any questions please feel free to ask, and most importantly have fun!

I’m gunna sit this one out, I’m struggling to get an image I’m happy with using snapseed. Just can’t seem to get the exposure right. If I bring the foreground in the sky blows out and I bring the sky in the foreground is barely visible. And I can’t seem to find selective exposure in snapseed to do them independently. Guess I’ve found the limitations of a mobile app lol. Look forward to seeing what you pros come up with.

I use Snapseed’s brush tool for this: you can selectively apply exposure compensation, saturation adjustment etc. The tool’s HDR function will also lighten a dark foreground without losing the sky, best applied lightly though as it will also make any visual noise worse.

In PS, you can select the sky (or whatever) independently. Then apply edits to that. Which is what is definitely necessary in this image. As the sky, as you have correctly stated, is over exposed in then center. Which is what makes this image an excellent ‘challenge’

Thanks John @Drumsagard !

What a fabulous photo ! just a bit confused as to what to save as… to upload for best viewing ? I’m really enjoying learning lightroom though :grinning:quite complicated.

I don’t know about snapseed as I’ve never used it , but yes, in PS you need to adjust the sky exposure separately from the rest of the image. Better to edit in raw too :+1:

For viewing online I downsize an image to 72dpi at about 22" wide and save as jpeg level 10.
