G7 & Drones

Saw this on LinkedIn. 3 stops and reported for summons for breaches of the restricted airspace.

Be interesting to see how these cases pan out.

For information Dan is the NPCC’s Operational and Capibilty Lead for Counter UAS as was at the G7 with members of the NPCC counter uas team.

“Well publicised” airspace restrictions?

Does the drone code even mention notams ?

I was wondering where it was publicised :man_shrugging:t2:

Cornish Chronicle or some such shite

Yeah but you’re average joe drone flyer isn’t gonna see that.

Shouldn’t the ‘average’ drone flyer know to check the apps and notams before flying?

Obviously not, I drove to the coast today and didn’t check road works, took me an age !

Pretty sure that won’t be a defence in law.

Also in my mind this screams of a common sense failure one of the biggest security operations in recent times and someone decides to put a UAV up.

They might not check the apps/notams etc but they can’t say they didn’t know about the event and its heightened security.

D’oh!

To be fair it was well publicised on SD and NATS.

Maybe I mistook their use of the word “publicised” to mean “advertised”.

My bad, sorry

SD ?

I was down in Cornwall all of last week and got some flying in before the 7p Wed lockdown. The moment I switched on my MIni2 controller and iPhone screen when I arrived on the previous Sat, the DJI app came up with a message telling me I was in a temp restricted area. It didn’t prevent take off - just publicised that the area was restricted and gave me a link to get full info. I have had the Mini2 since March and never updated the database so it looks like DJI were aware of the Cornwall lockdown last year which is the manufacturing date on the drone packaging. Anyone flying a DJI drone in that area would have had warning of the air space restriction.

Go for the SD lite it’s free. Does a job. It certainly showed everything you would need for another G7.

What does it offer our very own DroneScene does not

All similar and if it showed the G7 restriction I am really not sure what your point is other than those that flew drones in that area are pretty stupid. Sadly if you play stupid games you usually end up winning stupid prizes.
