Greenwich Park - Added to Parks and Recreation in London

I have just added this to the map of places to fly your drone at Drone Scene:

Land owner permission not required.

Locations address: London SE10 8QY

I took off and landed from the back of James Wolfe statue,

The originator declared that this location was not inside a Flight Restriction Zone at the time of being flown on 16/08/2024. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location.

Hi @vitacolt_2025, it looks as though you’re quite new here :wave:t2:

Why not nip over to the Introductions page, and say hello properly and tell us a bit about yourself. :+1:t2:

Sorry that I have come to this late and I am not trying to be a nuisance but is it not a little misleading to include this on Drone Scene?

As I understood it, TOAL is prohibited in the Royal Parks (which includes Greenwich Park) except at the ‘Flying Field’ in Richmond Park or with special (read expensive) filming permission.

The Royal Parks drone policy can be found on their website (see here).

The key section is:

Under Park Regulations (Regulation 6) no person using the park shall –
(13) in contravention of a notice exhibited by order of the Secretary of State, or
after having been requested by a constable not to do so –
(b) use a kite, or model aircraft or any mechanically propelled or operated
model,

If you would prefer to read the actual legislation, you can find it here (oddly, it looks like it is in regulation 3 to me, not regulation 6 as stated in the policy above).

There are signs up in Greenwich Park stating that the flying of drones is prohibited by order of the Secretary of State. I believe they have been in place since 2015. This was one of the notice boards yesterday:

Therefore, I think the regulation regarding ‘any mechanically propelled model’ applies and operating a drone from within the park is prohibited.

Personally, I would love to fly in Greenwich Park as I live very close by and the view over London would be fantastic but I had always understood it was not permitted so I have had to make do with flying on Blackheath instead.

In fact, I can see that the subject has been discussed before:

Is it worth removing the pin from Drone Scene so that others are not encouraged to TOAL from there, in contravention of the regulations?

I want to fly here, has anyone got any other tips or advice?

First they disbanded the Royal Parks Constabulary, now they have given notice that the Met Police (Royal Parks OCU) will also be disbanded. It will be interesting who will be enforcing the RP Regulations in future as the Met being understaffed, are they really going to make it a priority call in officers being dispatched to deal with a drone flyer in a Royal Park!?

It would also be interesting to put an FOI via the Royal Parks to enquire how many flyers were issued with enforcement action over the past 10 years…

I want to fly here, has anyone got any other tips or advice?
