Stupid question. If I fly off some cliffs over a beach. What happens if I go below the cliffs ? Will it try and land when is reads 0 meters or will it just keep decending until it sees the beach ?

Nope - you’ll be fine.
It doesn’t use altitude to decide to land - it uses the downward sensors.

Just be careful with the readout though it will report minus numbers once you drop below take off height (scary at first) similar to flying on hills
