Hi
I built a couple of drones a few years ago. One has a GoPro gimbal mount but I was never that happy with its lack of smoothness! So, as a christmas present to myself, I bought the Mini 4 Pro. Boy, It’s so much more capable and the video and pictures are outstanding for the price.
Haven’t used it that much apart from around the house, so no exciting pictures yet.
I’m also a paraglider pilot and today was flying in Wales with a friend who took his Mini 4 Pro with him. My friend took us in his car and parked up at the top of the hill. I landed at the top, near the car, but he landed 1000ft lower, with his car keys! So, guess what? He tied his keys to the drone and sent them up to me. That made the retrieve a lot easier for him.
I have a question about the insurance. Would it cover me for flying fixed wing model aircraft, both gliders and powered? I haven’t flown them for a while and used to get cover from the BRCMAC. That did cover them, and drones too.
Hi Graham, I’ve seen your handle come up on XC Retrieve - fellow paraglider pilot here near Oxford, though I don’t do much these days. I learnt in '93, and whizzed around the world flying in lots of interesting places, but the weird weather is making it harder, along with age and laziness! I’m a keen landscape photographer too, and been waiting for something like the current drones for years, having tied my Canon SureShot film compact under a parafoil kite I made, triggering it it with an RC servo. Needless to say, the results were generally blurred and random. I’ve had an Air 2S for three years now, and still love the ability to see and photograph the world from a red kite’s perspective - the critters flying over my garden every day near the Chilterns. It’s a much more reliable way of getting aerial photos than paragliding! Cool idea for retrieve.
