So, conditions were pretty much perfect yesterday and I fucked it up.
All my footage was underexposed. I checked histograms/zebras and hit AE lock - but I was pointing at the sun when I did this, so everything 180 degrees from the sun was pretty much black. I’ve taken photos before… I know this stuff… Jesus, what was I thinking??
Anyway, here’s some dull footage over water - no points of interest whatsoever!
I was so tempted by fly over to one of the cruise ships parked up in the harbour, but this was my first time over water and I was bricking it.
And I nearly hit a tree (downward sensors off as I was over water, and I lost sight briefly).
I’ve tried to rescue the footage in post, but the best I could do looks very ‘retrolux’ and flickery.
A text book example of what not to do when the weather is perfect.
Had a quick play and I have to say, you did an amazing job with what you accomplished in the final video, just get so much noise coming though. Is such a shame, what a location. are you still there. Maybe another flight?
Unlucky Ned. I’ve done a similar thing with snorkeling videos in the past. Had action cam set to auto white balance and while snorkeling at the surface it kept flicking from underwater mode to normal mode. Ruined everything I took. I feel your pain mate
As @SirGunner said, I feel your pain. I went out yesterday to try to get the last of the autumn colours (the weather has been torrential and hugely windy here for a couple of weeks) and on one of the main videos I had inadvertantly touched the screen and knocked the focus off. I don’t think this will be saveable which is a shame as there are some lovely colours in there.
