How to automatically complete a web form?

Hi all,

I live within the FRZ from Coventry Airport and so have to constantly request permission to fly in a few local green spaces (and have so far never been refused - thank you Coventry ATC)

To get permission, I have to complete a web form that spans 4 or 5 pages (complete the first page, click next, complete the second page, press next and so on). It’s here: https://egbe-flights.com/drone-request/

Some fields are text (Name, email, reason for flight), some are radio buttons (Select from: Recreational, agricultural, surveying etc)

The time is selected by tapping up and down arrows to select the correct value.

I have a sheet that I basically copy and paste from so it’s not too onerous, but wondered if there is a tool /method that might streamline entry (much like browsers can often guess that it’s your name that’s required and will suggest it automatically.

I use 1Password as a password manager, so not sure if that might help?

In case it matters, I use a Mac (or iPhone) and use Safari browser.
Any hints would be appreciated

Google macro recorder lots available for Mac (and windows)

Could also do it with Automator on your Mac

Oh yes …. Automator …. Always looks horribly complicated when I look at it, but might be worth learning how to use it.
Thanks

And now the web site seems to have a problem, so I can’t test it…
I have discovered that 1Password allows me to save a filled in web form, so I am trying to get this to work, but will have to wait for them to resolve the web site issues first !

Can’t you just ask them for a blanket yes on your favourite sites on the condition that you stick to a certain altitude and certain times of the day or something like that?

Lewis

It’s something I have been considering … I might give that a go soon as they have never refused as I avoid the times when the airfield is open.

An update …

After trying various methods, and continually having problems with the web site, it now seems that they have abandoned the ‘old’ process (hence why the web site wasn’t working), and now just request that you send an email to safeguarding@coventryairport.co.uk with the following info:

  • Time and Date of Flight
  • Location (Postcode and/or Lat/Long Coordinates)
  • Operating Height (AGL and AMSL)
  • Name and Address of Operator
  • E-mail and Contact Number of Operator

The information can be found here:Coventry Airport Environment | Coventry Airport
@PingSpike would it make sense to add this to the entry for coventry Airport on DroneScene?

Sorry Peter @BudgieUK but it’s not our data to change. We collate and overlay map data from many different external resources on to Drone Scene in real-time

We display the contact telephone numbers, as that’s available to us in one of the datasets we use:

I’m guessing if someone called that number they’d be instructed to send an email to the safeguarding@ address

@BudgieUK Peter, now that it seems you’ve sorted your permissions’ issues could I just ask. As you use a Mac and Safari why do you choose to use 1Password as opposed to Apple Keychain?
I’m not trying to promote either method, just curious as to your thought process.
Cheers

The reason I use 1Password has many facets, but I will try to explain the key ones:

  • Many passwords I use are shared with other family member (Amazon, Netflix etc) and sharing from keychain is not easy, but I think this is improved with iOS17
  • When I originally started using 1P, I was having to use multiple platforms (windows as well as Mac)
  • Security is better with a 3rd party app… there has been a rise in the number of iPhones being stolen, after the users PIN number has been seen (shoulder surfing). Once the bad guys have your phone, they can access key chain and get all of your passwords. Using a 3rd party means that they cannot easily access all of the other passwords
  • Key chain is more difficult to use for the less technically minded members of my family

Basically, it works well, and its not too expensive for a family account… but its always under review

I hope that explains a little?

That was perfect, Thanks Peter.

As a further update, I submitted a request this morning and decided to ask for a big area that covers all the open spaces within walking distance of home.
According to the wonderful DroneScene it’s been approved (the big circle on the middle of the screen). I have not had the official response yet.

They claim that it will take 7 days, but this appeared a couple of hours after the request.

:+1:t3: to Coventry Airport

Nice :star_struck:

It’s actually this one …. It’s every day for a month

It looks like we might both be “at it” on the 1st August at the same time :sunglasses:

Hi Peter @BudgieUK
I’m totally new to drones and didn’t realise it was going to get quite this complicated, so I’m navigating through. I’m all legal with OpiDs and flyer rigistration, and had the Cov Airport form issue you outlined and sent my first flight request to the airport via emai to handling and had it bounced. In particular they said this

“We have noticed that in the summary of your proposed flight you have requested to establish a flight zone. Unfortunately, this is something that we cannot implement. We can approve the operation of drones at specific locations and times, but we cannot establish flight zones.”

Did you send an email to the airport or how did you submit yours? Also you show the NOTAM on Drone Scene, did you submit it through dronescene?

Appreciate any advice you can give?
Nick

Hi Nick, it looks like we are almost neighbours;)

When I apply, I send an email to safeguarding@coventryairport.co.uk and give the info about the time, location, distance etc.
I always ask for early morning (before the airport is open) and they have never declined.

Once they approve it, Coventry raise the notam that then appears in dronescene.

As long as you are ok for early mornings, you can just ‘piggy back’ off my approval (I sized it so it covers the Memorial Park, Whitley Common (also alongside Leaf Lane), Cheylesmore Park (where the geese are by Daventry Road, and the green area by the shops at Dawlish Drive).

I’ll DM you a copy of the email I sent
Happy to help in any way I can

Did you email ‘handling’ rather than the email address in my other reply?

No, but I’ve forwarded my updated request to handling now too.
