Iceland with Alexander Armstrong (inc my footage) Ch5 - Wed 6 Oct

Some of the clips from my Iceland video below will be featured in the first episode of ‘Iceland with Alexander Armstrong’ airing this Wednesday 6 Oct on Ch 5 at 9pm.
All from a chance meeting in a hotel restaurant at breakfast when I got chatting to Alexander and then ended up showing the production team what I had been filming 2 days earlier
Anyway, here’s the full set of clips I filmed; they’re using a few of these for when he’s flying around in a helicopter and lands on a hill near the crater.

All filmed with the M2Pro, which was indeed a little warm to say the least when I got it back…

Cheers
Ian

Absolutely stunning footage Ian! It does look a wee bit on the warm side :grinning: How far away from it were you?

Far enough not to be warm myself…

Back when it first erupted, and it was sub-zero and surrounded in snow, an Icelandic I follow (ooops “followed”) on Instagram slept over several night by being close enough to keep warm. The Goldilocks Zone. :+1:

Lovely operating! There were a few moments when I would have been a tad tempted, but that’s why you were there and not me!

Amazing footage, you must have been nervous flying your drone!
Ken.

I won’t lie. Glued to the screen and unable to talk is most of what I remember… :grinning:

Amazing footage Ian. I have set the prog to record tonight and hope you get due recognition. How did you judge how close you could fly? I don’t know what the DJI melting point is!! Were you prepared to sacrifice your M2Pro?

I was guessing a lot as it was hard to gauge the size of the crater so that made it hard to gauge the distance from the lava, but either way, it was a huge furnace and the drone did shudder and misbehave a bit when o was close over it…
The underside was nice and warm when it got back… :grinning: Ultimately, yes, I was prepared for damage, hence swapping SD card each time I swapped battery… And of course, using the 2 Pro instead of the Air 2 S…:cowboy_hat_face:

Great to see your brilliant footage being featured so prominently. Can’t imagine why they didn’t want to get the helicopter as close as your M2P for those shots… :joy:

Congratulations @ianinlondon on your new Celebrity badge
