Land owner permission not required. King Alfreds Tower King Alfred’s Tower is a folly in Somerset, England, on the edge of the border with Wiltshire, on the Stourhead estate. The tower stands on Kingsettle Hill and belongs to the National Trust. This is National Trust so TOAL is not permitted within the towers grounds but can be done from nearby. It remains the responsibility of any pilot to check for any changes before flying at the same location._ ---

Where is the best place to TOAL for this location to avoid NT land? ---

I’ve just added a new Take Off And Landing marker to this location @McSteamy2010 🙂 If you walk down Tower Road from the free car park you can TOAL across the road from Alfred’s Tower (right hand side if the tower is on your left) which is outside NT land. Stop when you get level with the tower and walk into the clearing behind the thin line of trees on the opposite side of the road to the tower. The tower itself will be in clear line of sight for your flight. I visited today although the wind was a little heavy for my drone, but I will go back on a day with better conditions because it is a great location and quite dramatic.
