Not sure if this has been covered but is this acceptable to put in “ permission unknown “ could or will this be classed as not acceptable in the future within the code?
Come to Scotland… we’re much more enlightened about such things
I’m not ready to come home yet Joe
Are there not more Scots folks living in England than Jockistan now?
No.
(But there are more Scots living in England than in any one Scottish city)
Are you referring to adding a location on Drone Scene @Scubadave63 ? ![]()
If so, then yes, it’s more than acceptable. We’d not have given you the option if we wouldn’t accept it ![]()
I tried once, and was told “No”, I don’t ask any more.
For the most part it’s not like your going to land anyways, you just need to use the airspace to get from A to B. So long as your following the code and not being a niusance I just go ahead and fly.
What he said ;o)

On my way, just waiting for Nicola to win
It would be nice to have an app letting folk know where you can fly locally in addition to where you can’t. Mind you I guess this would highlight how restrictive local councils are being with us.
The whole of the UK would be coloured in red @Shaun ![]()
LoL … it is getting crazy. I m thinking of taking off and landing from my fathers grave, and at least it has my surname on the headstone to match my flyer ID
Drone have far more options for take-off and landing. The principles are the same for any VTOL/Rotary aircraft. Permissions to use land for take-off and landing but also permissions to use airspace. If we simply ignore a landowners disapproval to fly over their land then we are set to give the drone industry a bad name. Like all aviation in the past, we must build public trust or simply just don’t fly.
The bottom line is that land owners do not own or control the airspace above their property, that is the job of the CAA. As long as you don’t TOAL from their land and fly within the drone code, the land owner will just have to like it or lump it.
Landowners permission would be good, but nigh impossible to get!!!
If I’d look for permission every time, I’d never fly !!
I won’t stand in a field to launch or land, but, it is extremely hard to get a home point safe and large enough for RTH, so once in a while I do some slight “trespassing”.
I usually take off from public places and in all likelihood, I invariably end up flying over someone’s private property at some stage. The risk of course is that the bird comes down within a property that I don’t have rights to. It’s never happened so far and unless you were being a nuisance, I would reckon they would let you retrieve. Although a mate of mine flew one into a tree that was in private property and the owners initially wouldn’t let him climb the tree to get it back. Some pleading and the offer of free photos of their house and grounds soon changed their mind!
I telephoned the local council today and asked a series of questions regarding the parks and green areas that they control, firstly I asked if I was allowed to fly my drone in any them and the answer was a resounding no, I then mentioned that I had spoken to the CAA and that I had established they do not own the air space, again they sad no because even if I could fly there I was not allowed take off or land in them. I then asked if I was allowed in the park and was told of course I was, so I then said I will be taking off and landing my drone in my hand so technically I wasn’t breaking any bylaws
they did not say anything to this. So I will give it a go and see what happens. My drone is a mavic mini and I will of course only use open areas to practice my techniques, and again only in the early mornings so as not to cause a nuisance to anyone.
