Man flies drone into tree, shock

Many of you have done it, and it was a first for me. <Doh.> Lots of stupidness involved and I’d say it was my fault. My witness @BingBong Bruce would agree, I’m sure.

Be that as it may, here is the tall-ish tree in question (15m up?) with Bruce’s Mavic 4 Pro in attendance:

Here you can see my drone on the Mavic remote’s screen:

The downdraft from the Mavic didn’t move it, alas. I may need a long pole to dislodge it or the help of a tree-surgeon friend to get it down (though this location is not great).

Any other ideas? Anyone fancy having a go? It’s in Oxfordshire, not far from Oxford and on or adjacent to private land with public footpath access.

The Mini 5 Pro can’t come soon enough (or the Antigravity for that matter); in the meantime it’ll be back to a Mini 2 for me :person_shrugging:

TIA

No one has ever flown a drone into a tree. Trees jump out infront of drones in attempted insurance scams trying to claim for injury, because trees are dicks.

it is usually the branches fault

A series of unfortunate events as usual, not aided by the 28 degree heat. I got as close as I could to fan it out with the Mavic Pro 4, but no effect, but found it from above with my drone after we set the Find My Drone beeps going to narrow it down. It overheated and shut down after a while. It looks like it is just hanging from the front right arm, so a long telescopic pole should shift it, and a clearish path down to the field. You couldn’t reach it by climbing, but a tree surgeon could probably lop the branch off from the ground with the very long loppers. Shot of it’s position in the tree.

Poke @Ozonevibe.

He has previous

Ask @Nikonitis

There was a video on here a few years ago of one drone lifting another down from power lines using a boot lace or a rope

yes, I saw that in this thread,

I think this was the video linked

Whaddya reckon, @BingBong ?

The weighted line could work. Arborists use a light line to chuck over a branch, then pull a heavier line through. It would probably be enough to shake it free if you can get a clear shot. I’ve asked Zak (now in Norway) if the Arb might have a telescopic pole or loppers.

I’d recommend having a wee word with Dave aka @OzoneVibe. He successfully rescued my Mini 4 Pro from a tree, somewhat higher (I think) than yours, using string and thread.

Have any fishermen friends! A roach pole could be long enough to poke it out.

Or our own rescue mission getting a stranded fpv drone from a roof using a bit of fishing line and a tri- hook made from paper clips

That’s very close to the situation my drone is in. A bit higher than mine, but what a team! Can we borrow the dog?

To clarify .. previous drone rescues .. NEVER my own drone in a tree.

That does look pretty well tangled in there.:scream:

Even if you can get a rope on the right section and give it a good shoogle, I’m not sure how shoogleable the drone will be with the props al the way through behind those smaller branches. :frowning:

Two of these joined together (and circus-level balancing skills to get the loppers on the right branch)?

Oh, what about one of these tied to some rope?

I’m imaging a daring mission to drop one end of the rope over the right branch. (@TheJohnster would not approve! )

The method I used was easy .. and the drone was no less entangled in the foliage/twigs ..

… but the shaking of the correct branch soon had it out.

If you have never hit a branch, you have never flown a drone.

I keep a ball of twine attached to a fishing weight in my pack. Hurl the weight up to the branch with the drone and pull. Works quite well.

Failing that, if you have a 2nd drone available, have a look here.
