I HAVE A TOSHIBA LAP TOP AND BECAUSE OF ITS AGE IT DOESN’T DO 4K VIDEOS. IS THERE A WAY I CAN BIT FRUSTRATING AS I HAVE SOME GREAT VIDEOS ON MY MAGIC PLATINUM. HELP
Easy on the caps lock mate
The short answer is no, you’ll need to upgrade your hardware.
There are probably other ways around it but they’ll be more hassle than it’s worth
Which software do you use to edit video?
Hello again truthfully I haven’t got any video editing software just what’s on the laptop can ou advise me my mate put on a programme think it’s called VLG??? But it’s just a mess. Help
Sorry about the caps as you said I may have to get a new lap top. Thanks anyway
I thought you mean you couldn’t edit the videos
You mean you can’t watch them?
What happens when you try?
If you are just trying to view them do you have a Smart TV?
If it has an SD slot you can probably watch on there or maybe upload to YouTube (so you can keep the 4K) and watch the resulting videos online (perhaps via Sky/Cable box or a Firestick as a cheap alternative if you don’t have a smart TV)
Have you got a 4k codec installed?
I think I paid for mine (£0.99 maybe?) as I’m weary of malware from OEM vendors but MS seem to have this one for free new?
VLC, I expect.
So - that can be used to convert your 4k video to 1080 … then you should be able to play it on your old laptop OK.
Found some instructions … and edited them to keep them relevant and simple.

How to use VLC as a converter:
Step 1: Convert from Media Menu directly:
Open VLC media player on your system and then hit "Media" option available on top left corner.
From the drop down menu select “Convert/Save” option.

Step 2: Select Videos to Convert:
You can drag files to the window, or use the "+ Add" button.
From the drop down menu select the “Convert” option.

Step 3: Select file name for converted video:
Click on the "Browse button and chose the location where you want the converted video to be saved, and enter the file name you want it to be given … ending in ".MP4"

Step 4: Select video format for conversion:
For the "Profile", select the "Video - H.264 + MP3 (MP4)" option.
(Don’t worry about the MP3 Audio Format. This is changed later.)

Advanced Settings:
Click on the Tool icon to the right side of profile option.

Check that the setting in the locations indicated are as follows :
(The last one shows why the MP3 audio (earlier) doesn’t matter … this selects to copy the audio in the original format totally unchanged.)
Step 5: Start Conversion: Videos saved in target format:
Once you have checked all the above settings, then hit the "Start" button on screen to begin conversion process. Depending on the processor speed of your computer and the size of the video, VLC may take a whole to convert your file.

Thank you for the info but I can’t run it as I have got Windows 7 which is a pity. May have to invest in a new lap top. Regards Irvine (Portsmouth UK)
Hi again what’s a 4K codec
Yes I have a Samsung Smart Tv and can watch the videos on it but I need to put them on to you tube but my lap top is ancient. Thanks anywsy
Without editing, you could still just upload them to YouTube … but chances are you’ll be wanting to edit in some way, so going via 1080 will probably be your only (simple) route.
Some editing software would create a low-res working copy that would allow editing, and you could render that to any resolution you wanted to before uploading to YouTube.
If you have a phone with a memory card slot, put the memory card from your drone in to the phone and upload to YouTube from your phone.
Hi again what’s a good video software programme.
Open Shot isn’t bad for free software
https://www.openshot.org/download/
Once you know you want to progress further, you might want to consider buying a subscription to Adobe
DaVinci Resolve is mentioned a lot as a good free software.
It is, and often by me. But if Irvine’s laptop is really old, as he suggests, then I think it will struggle. It does need a minimum of 4GB RAM all to itself - ie a system with a minimum of 8GB, and preferably 16GB … and I’m doubting his laptop has more than 4GB.
I thought you could not send 4K to YouTube?
