Mavic2 Pro - Landing Issues! Doesn't want to land!

Has anyone else experienced issues with their drone refusing to respond to downward controls from about 3ft and below?

I experienced this for the second time this evening. Frustrating. I tried doing a land with the ‘land now’ and didn’t get the slide to land pop up so I restarted the app and then I got the slide to land to work.

I read elsewhere that it could be dirty sensors - so I’ll definitely clean it up real good tomorrow before I fly and see if it makes a difference. Just curious if anyone else experienced similar issue!!

cheers

What type of surface are you trying to land on Bonny?

I’ve seen my downward VPS struggle when trying to land on astroturf - I think the pattern plays havoc with it.

So having seen this on more than one occasion, I give it some visual assistance now

Before take off, I get two sticks from the garden and place one at the back of the drone and one at the right hand side of the drone. Both sticks are probably about 12 inches away from the drone and laid parallel with it.

I find this gives the VPS something very specific to lock on to, it also works wonders when I’ve tried the Precision Landing too and the GO4 app often informs me it’s adjusting it’s position a few times as it comes in to land too.

Perhaps your MP2 doesn’t like certain types of surface that it can’t get a good visual lock on @SpininB ?

By the way, using a landing mat also cures this issue instantly (re astroturf) :+1:

On my Mavic 2 Zoom I’ve noticed that occasionally the Auto Land is unavailable if I do a manual take-off and then at the end of the flight try to choose Auto Land then I don’t get the slider.

After landing manually I noticed that the on-screen arrow was still pointing upwards, i.e. ready to accept an Auto Take-Off instruction.

It seems it gets out of sync if you mix an Auto and Manual in the same flight. It has always worked perfectly if I do an Auto Take-Off to start and an Auto Land at the end.

I use my landing pad religiously!

I even brought it with me in spite of the added weight …

When it happened the first time - I thought it had to do with magnetic interference since I had that message when i took off -but this time there was no magnetic interference …

Oh weird! In which case that blows my suggestion completely out of the water

Do you get any other errors or warnings mid-flight, that might hint towards an issue when it comes to landing?

no other warnings. My sensors didn’t look dirty but I cleaned them and hopefully that fixes it - pretty frustrating not being able to make it land!

I always use the auto take off - but I rarely use the full RTH land - sometimes I do a return to home to get it back quickly but I usually land manually. I have not updated to the new firmware either - I tried after I landed last night but it wouldn’t take for some reason and I wasn’t too keen on the thought of losing my settings anyhow

We are all different/strange. I’ve only used it once to demonstrate to someone. Always manual t/o and land … or hand launch/catch sometimes in rough terrain.

Edit: Thinking about it … that probably comes from having started with a Phantom 2 where you HAD to do everything yourself. Just seems logical now.

My reason for the auto take off is the thought that it is supposed to provide a more accurate RTH setting - probably the same as if you take off and hover for 10 sec - but just a reminder to me to try and be sure to get home point as precise as possible even though the new app doesn’t mention precise homepoint anymore

In a really rapid take-off, the other day, still in ATTI, I did manage to get am RTH location 192ft above me. :stuck_out_tongue:
But - it was above me, so no problem … and you can set RTH to your RC/Device location at any time, too.

Edit: Useful to note that the App does tell you that the RTH is however-many-feet above t/o. I’d never managed that before, so first time I’d seen.
