Meet up in South Wales

Hi

Just testing the waters for a South Wales meet up.

One day I will check drone scene for possible venues

Any thoughts?

Organised one myself last year, John; there were 4 of us and we flew off Cardiff Bay Barrage by the locks. Great time had by all, and I found the set-up procedure in Drone Scene to be user-friendly enough for even me to be able to manage!

Where are you thinking of having it? I’ll turn up if I can get there but I have to rely on public transport, so won’t be able to if it’s somewhere you can only get to by car. The Barrage locks are about a 20-minute walk from the nearest bus, which I would consider a reasonable limit!

As well as this, you probably need to cosider things like TOAL permission/FRZ, amenities (parking, wheelchair, public toilets, cafes, pubs), and not too busy! And ‘interesting’ things to photograph & film; this is a potentially tough one to get 100% right, because not everybody is interested in the same things!

I’d be keen to meet in South Wales if the timings work

Bouncing maybes/dates/times/locations about rarely results in a meetup.

As above .. far better to take the initiative to a logical step by choosing a location, date and time, and creating a meetup (with a couple of weeks notice), and I’d pretty much guarantee you won’t be alone on the day (weather permitting).

I’ve even proposed a random mid-week meetup at an unexciting location (for a particular need I had) with only 2 days notice .. and we still had 5 of us flying for a couple of hours.
The reason I was going there, I’d have been happy had I been on my own, but far happier that it grew into something bigger.

Good advice. You need to set a time and a location and not faff about because x needs to get away early or y can only do Thursdays, or whatever. If they come they come, if they don’t it’s not your fault and you can get a flight in anyway!
