Took a trip to Wales this weekend. This is the Mid Wales Hospital Asylum, creepy to say the least.

What are you talking about? there are no roads anywhere near where you need to fly, certainly none you need to fly over so your point is moot and since when is that reason to class somewhere as a no fly zone? I would also like to point out that the security guard we met was more than happy for us to fly there, they only complain when people try to get in.
We spoke to a resident who lives on the same plot too and they didnt mind either. Maybe its you they had a problem with? (Sorry just making the same sort of rediculous statement you just have…)

Maybe you are right as he was having a argument with a young couple who arrived there before us, as for no roads , how did you get there, I drove into the grounds through the main entrance from a narrow road/ lane parked just inside the gates walked into the grounds only to be confronted by as I said a very aggressive security guard who was in the middle of a big argument with the other couple. I backed away until the guard escorted these people of, and then I suffered a verbal bullying about this being private property get off you don’t have permission. I apologised left the property then noticed a sign on gate with a telephone number to ring to get permission to enter rang that and the reply was very abrupt just a no and please remove yourself from our property. The s/guard I meet was an elderly man in a blue van, he photographed my car stating that it was on private property and please remove it. He also stated during our brief conversation that you cannot fly drones as they overlook peoples gardens that surround the hospital. Maybe you met a different guy, cheers Len

Perhaps the previous people just upset him and put him on the defensive. As for the roads, i said you dont have to overfly them. And to address the gardens, again not a rule a rule, even overflying the gardens is fine provided your distances are observed correctly. I might add both of us there were A2CofC qualified.
Admittedly there is a sign stating private road however there were sooo many people walking and driving through. Speaking to a local, noone seems to care as long as the place is respected, to which we were very respectful as we always are.

Same here as an 80 year old with A2CoC, I always look for safe places to fly from , I have an Inspire1 a phantom 4 Pro , a Mavic 2 Pro and now the mini 2 which I was going to use on the day, and have been flying since the Phantom 2 came out, without having any incidents, my remarks about the roads were to say that they were too narrow to park your car on and there was nowhere near to fly from as the next road up from hospital was also private. I park on road near farmers gate and usually fly from the gate entrance if I can maintain vlos and if I can to get the images I need if refused permission at location but this time the roads were way to narrow for this to happen, but my day out flying wasn’t wasted as I found a castle just around the corner from the Asylum so flew there, cheers Len

At first, I thought this was going to be the Denbigh Insane Asylum - which does have a very obnoxious caretake who often threatens to shoot folk - Thanks to your video, I now know there’s another Welsh Asylum - at Powys. Stunning Video 
I was there a week or two back and also saw an elderly gent in a blue van. I don’t believe he’s a security guard. He didn’t approach us once even though we were looking in the windows, he just drove back and forth staring at us. No badge, no uniform, nothing on his vehicle: none of that said “security” to me. There were numerous people using the road through the site when I was there, none were challenged.
If I went again, I’d go straight up to him and tell him what I was doing, and ask him for his ID if he wanted to challenge it.

Think this guy must have been upset by the young couple that he was arguing with, I don’t argue , offered to show him all images I took and would delete any images he thought showed any gardens but he was not having it, then when he photographed my car I just left, it was bad timing I think, cheers Len
