He should have immediately dialled 999 told the operator a firearm is being pointed at him and requested an ARV Unit! The blood would have soon drained from the idiots face on arrival.
I asked a plumber from Salisbury to give a bathroom quote last week and, when he knew I had a Drone, boasted that he had recently shot his neighbourâs drone out of the sky. That really sickened me -and his quote was binned! Surely he is committing a few offences in law!
As a plumber, probably every time he quotes or completes a job ;o)
I would have thought shooting someone elseâs property constitutes criminal damage at the very least, even if there are no specific firearm laws being broken.
@nick2491 might be able to assist ?
Sorry for the delay, Iâve only just seen this.
Iâd say the local Popo should be making a bee-line for this idiot, taking his Shotgun licence and shotguns away and knocking him off for criminal damage at the very least.
If you genuinely and reasonably felt a crime was in progress, then shooting a drone down might possibly be justified, but youâd have to have some pretty damn convincing reasons to think the drone being used was part of a crime, and that discharging a firearm was proportionate, and âItâs over my house, it might be a burglarsâ is nowhere near enough to justify opening fire. Plus youâd have to think where the pellets land and what/who theyâre going to damage when they do. Bottom line is, a drone doesnât put anyones life at risk in this scenario, so I canât see how you could possibly argue it was reasonable force.
Iâm no expert on aviation law either, but I wouldnât be surprised if there was something about not discharging firearms within the FRZ around an airport. I donât know what the maximum altitude is for shotgun pellets, it probably varies on the shot size, but I remember from my army days we were taught the maximum altitude you can engage aircraft at with rifle fire is 3,000 feet.
Not to mention the possibility that if he goes full-on Karen, someone calls the Gun Monkeys out and heâs still holding the shotgun when they arrive, his choices will be either A) Do exactly what youâre told and put it down very very slowly indeed, or B) bleed out.
Thereâs no mention of consequences for the gun owner, but this was only ten days ago. What theyâve probably done is get a statement from the drone owner and anyone else who saw the proceedings, downloaded the footage from the drone if it was recording and the SD card wasnât destroyed, interviewed the shooter and then gone to seek CPS advice about who to charge what with. Maybe they seized his guns, maybe they didnât, but unless thereâs a real and immediate public safety risk in leaving him at home (ranting about the lizard people causing Covid type tmental nonsense), or heâs likely to leave the country, then thereâd be no power of arrest.
Fair play though, for hitting a Mini 2, theyâre tiny!
Close by me thereâs a very active clay shooting club that overlooks the Western end of Leeds and Bradford Airport. Shotgun pellets lose potential energy quite quickly, especially when shot in the air, and have very low kinetic energy in free fall. As for the legality of the gun owners actions? It is unlawful to purposely discharge a weapon at an aircraft, but in this instance both the police and the CAA have chosen not to classify the drone as an aircraft.
Below is a picture showing the location of the gun club I mentioned in relation to the the airport. For clarification the gun club is about 100ft in elevation in relation to the runway.
Which kinda begs the question of the CAAâs jurisdiction over dronesâŚif they arenât classed as aircraftâŚ
Just another Government diktat to create another revenue stream. Just like their estimation of around twenty squillion asylum seekers they claim are headed for our shores, they estimated thereâd be around 10 bazillion drone users at ÂŁ12 a head.
I cant stomach the guy Anyone with insomnia ive discovered the magic cure a guy so boring paint dries quiker to end itâs suffering
Itâs criminal damage at the very least.
I have to say, as a journalist and lover of the English language, the writer of the article should receive a custodial sentence for âHe was supposed to be videoing classic cars at the property. but was soon saw the drone shot down.â
Im sure its illegalâŚ! This is called armed trespass, you are liable to 5 years in prison⌠yes, it is illegalâŚ
